Everything You Need to Know Before Watching Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hit the silver screens today, and I’m sure most of you are dying to watch it. As someone who has watched the film, you must know it is pretty warped, twisted, and geeks out on the multiversal concept and how it works.

What makes it slightly relatable and less confusing is that even Dr. Strange is learning about it as we do. So it’s a journey that both the protagonist and the audience are on together. But don’t worry, I’m not here to give you any spoilers.

This article will make it a lot easier for you to understand the movie. Here’s everything you need to know and watch before the Multiverse of Madness.

You need to watch the shows WandaVision, Loki, and What If…? along with Spider-Man: No Way Home to grasp the overall film and truly understand the nitty-gritty involved in the story.

What to Watch Before Multiverse of Madness

  • WandaVision (Compulsary)
  • Loki (Optional)
  • What If…? (Optional)
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home (Optional)

Dr. Strange and Wanda

Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness shares a sole direct link to Wanda’s arc. For this, you need to watch WandaVision, because it explains three crucial things:

  • Wanda’s mindset and mental health when it comes to Vision’s death.
  • What she does to an entire town called Westview due to her trauma.
  • How the show ends and how she becomes the Scarlet Witch.

You must have seen multiple Dr. Strange 2 trailers to know that Wanda, aka The Scarlet Witch, plays a crucial role in the film. Her character arc picks up from the end of WandaVision and becomes a central part of the story.

Loki, What If…?, and Spider-Man: No Way Home can be watched or skipped. While it is advisable to watch them before entering the theatres, you can still enjoy and understand the movie without watching them.

What If…?

If you want to know why it is necessary to watch all these shows and movies, I’m here to help you with that.

All three titles deal with the multiverse concept in one way or another. While the premise, the story, and the events might differ in scale and repercussions to the larger MCU, they still have multiverse as a core aspect.

Watching them is like being ushered into this new concept. You can take about 12 episodes and a film to catch on to MCU’s idea of countless realities, what it means to be in the multiverse, how it works, the rules, what happens if some rule is broken, etc.

Explaining further would mean that I enter the spoiler territory, but fret not because I’m not going there just for your sake. So, if you’ve watched all these titles, you are good to go. If you haven’t, you must definitely watch WandaVision, and the rest is up to you.

For those of you wondering how the film is, let me say it is an interesting blend of sci-fi, horror, and mysticism. However, the movie is decent and might feel slightly underwhelming considering how much we had expected from it.
