What is the Catalog Expansion in Helldivers 2?

The Catalog Expansion is a Ship Module upgrade in Helldivers 2. It is locked under the Bridge section of Ship Management, and its description reads as “new stratagem permits added to the ship management terminal for purchase.”

Immediately after the Catalog Expansion update rolled in, Baskinator, the Helldivers community manager posted this in the official discord server of the game,

ALERT: ROGUE ITEM DETECTED

The Ministry of Truth has confirmation that a rogue item called the “catalog expansion” is temporarily visible in the Ship Management menu and, in accordance with regulations, we instruct all Helldivers to avoid this rogue item until further notice. The Ministry of Truth cannot confirm the reliability or safety of this item, nor can they confirm its origin.

Clearly, it seems like the game wishes to introduce new stratagems through the catalog expansion and the said term is only a placeholder until the new update brings in new sets of stratagems to the game.

Stratagems are unique abilities that players can use in Helldivers 2 to tackle objectives and kill the monsters that attack the Super Earth.

How to unlock Catalog Expansion in Helldivers 2?

Catalog Expansion can be unlocked by collecting a large amount of Common, Rare, and Super Rare Samples. However, as the Catalog Expansion has not been accommodated into the game so far it cannot be unlocked as of now.

Due to the mysterious nature of the Catalog Expansion, it is very well possible that on the update of its incorporation, its name and method of acquiring may get changed as per the will of the developers.

It is yet to be officially seen what Catalog Expansion actually is but looking at the constant world building and fascinating updates by the Helldivers 2 devs, it is surely going to bring more engagement and fun to the game.
