Black Myth: Wukong Developers Face Multiple Controversies Before the Game’s Debut

Black Myth Wukong is the latest production by the Chinese game development studio Game Science. It’s a third-person action RPG based on the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West, perfectly resembling ancient mythology.

We all thought Black Myth Wukong’s debut would be successful; however, some controversies regarding the game’s development team and the streaming rules surfaced. Currently, fans are questioning Game Science’s unjustified actions as things seem to be turning against them.

1. What is the Black Myth Wukong controversy about?

Black Myth Yukong developers are facing controversies due to their history of sexism, unprofessional work culture, and banning content creators for using certain terms in exchange for game keys.

Game Science Studio was accused of a sexist work environment and developers making filthy and crude comments about women. Now, hearing this will frustrate anyone, and that’s what happened among female Chinese players.

2. Game Science’s Sexist and Unprofessional Work Culture

A report from IGN shares multiple comments from the studio’s employees. Some of them are reports of job recruitment posters bragging about “friends with benefits” in the workplace and another poster reading: “Fatties should f**k off.” There are even more filthy comments that will make you feel disgusted.

Some of the developers also stated that they don’t want women playing their games, and men and women can’t enjoy the same games. It doesn’t make sense, right? Well, this doesn’t end here.

The developers persisted in making demeaning and inappropriate comments, discussing G-spots, and using offensive language. Some even stooped so low as to make lewd remarks about characters in their own game.

Women from the Chinese gaming community expressed their discomfort and stated:

“These male developers have never paid the price for their misogynistic remarks. The gaming community doesn’t want this to change. In their eyes, women don’t deserve respect. Even just listening to them is considered pandering, a marketing tactic, and catering to Western political correctness. I can’t describe how despairing this feels.”

3. Content Creators are banned from bringing up certain topics

Content creators are furious that Game Science Studio restricted them from bringing up certain topics without reason. Additionally, some creators are already banned.

A document containing “DO and DO N’ts” terms for content creators was later leaked on Reddit. Many content creators also shared this document and stated that it isn’t part of sponsored content.

The first two “Don’ts” are typical for new releases, but the last three are quite surprising. It’s understandable why terms like “quarantine,” “isolation,” or “COVID-19” are avoided since Game Science is based in China, where the pandemic started. However, it’s odd to include them in guidelines for a mythology-based game that has nothing to do with these topics.

Lastly, the phrase “feminist propaganda” might relate to reports of sexism within the Black Myth: Wukong development team.

No matter how good the game is, the behavior of the developers and the poor reputation of Game Science studio might become the reason for Black Myth Wukong’s downfall.
