Star Wars Biomes: The Short Film You Didn’t Know You Needed

Star Wars Biomes is definitely one of the franchise’s memorable gems that we didn’t know we needed.

The short film takes you to explore the imaginary lands, and by the time you finish it, you’d be wishing it was another eighteen minutes longer.

The short special was released to mark Star Wars Day on May 4, 2021, and Disney+ even has the film listed under its Travel category as we fly over some of the franchise’s most iconic locations.

With The Book of Boba Fett relishing in everything that Star Wars’ legacy has built and bringing back Mando and an N-1 starfighter, Biomes is a similar experience that is different from the usual format yet relies heavily on nostalgia.

The short transports its audience to various locations of the original trilogy, prequels, sequels, as well as The Mandalorian. So, you can sit back and relax, enjoying the stunning visuals of Star Wars Biomes as it takes us to six different planets from a galaxy far, far away.

First up is Hoth looking majestic in its snow-clad scenery. The camera moves over the landscape, and you can also spot a probe droid, Imperial AT-AT walkers, and a herd of Tauntauns at one point. The Empire Strikes Back’s planet, as we know, is uninhabitable by most species, given its extreme winters.

Then comes Tatooine with its Dune Sea, deserts, and twin suns. Except for its endless sand, Anakin and Luke Skywalker’s home planet has a few droids, Tusken Raiders, Jawas with their sandcrawlers, and a landspeeder to keep its visual tour engaging.

Moving on to Sorgan—the planet that looks more habitable than the rest. We see the villages from The Mandalorian, and right on cue, Din Djarin’s Razor Crest can be seen flying in.

Next up is The Last Jedi’s salt-covered Crait. The camera work on this one is different from the previous worlds as it looks straight down as the Resistance fight TIE Fighters and Imperial walkers, unearthing the red soil under the salt.

Mustafar comes in hot with its volcanoes and lava streams looking like they’ll engulf you whole, accompanied by Darth Vader’s castle fitting in perfectly with the scenery. There are shots of Krennic’s shuttle and some TIE fighters as well.

The last one on the tour is Ahch-To, Luke’s hiding place in the sequel films. The bundle of scattered islands has a few porgs, a sea monster, and we witness the Millennium Falcon take off, presumably with Rey and Chewbacca inside.

The animation and CGI almost make it seem like maybe Nat Geo discovered a hidden island somewhere. As Star Wars expands further, Disney+ could (and absolutely should) release more parts of Biomes.
