What If…? promised us a “Party Thor” who we will finally see in Episode 7.
In the teaser poster, Thor appears to be clean-shaven, sporting his usual luscious locks of golden hair and magnificently holding his hammer. Chris Hemsworth returns to voice the character. Have a look:
The character also looks very young, and along with the prefix of “party,” it reminds me of a Thor we saw during his introduction into the MCU. This could indicate that we are once again going back in time to recapture Thor when he was still a little immature and gave in easily to his own whims.
The Thor we know in the MCU learned to change his ways, even at times struggling to grabble with Odin’s lessons and making many painful sacrifices through the course of the events. It’s what made him beyond worthy of wielding Mjolnir and Stormbreaker.
What If…?’s Party Thor could be a version of the superhero who did not walk down this road. We can expect him to be carefree and lax. However, I’m still trying to figure out what makes him “worthy” in this version to continue wielding Mjolnir — something we can definitely hope to uncover in the upcoming Episode 7.
The show has been absolutely mum about episode themes or even character-focused arcs to expect, right until the very end. But the one thing that has been on everyone’s mind is rounding up the Guardians of the Multiverse.
The ensemble (in an alternate Avengers’ style get-up) is expected to be made up of Peggy Carter, Killmonger, Starlord T’Challa, Gamora, Black Widow, Doctor Strange, and of course, “Party” Thor.
The enemy they must take down is presumed to be Ultron Infinite.
After Thor, there are only two more episodes remaining in What If…? It’s not yet determined if Episodes 8 and 9 will be a two-parter or if Episode 8 will focus solely on a different story.
For those sad about saying goodbye to the alternate worlds in What If…? can look forward to the prospect of Season 2, confirmed for as early as 2022.
About What If…?
