Read what he said below –
We want to protect these characters and we want to make sure we’re not doing anything that betrays them or makes people turn on them, but this was a storyline that has been simmering in the background for a long time, and we wanted to honor the reality of that. And you’re right, this is a turning point. The rest of the season [deals with] the fallout. The next episode [airing Thursday, March 9] picks up right where this one leaves off. Mary’s not going back home. She’s using the new grandbaby as an excuse, but she is staying at Meemaw’s house. I don’t want to give too much away about what’s coming up, but the intention was always to let these fuses blow, then let George and Mary start to rebuild.
The long-awaited confrontation between Mary and George on Young Sheldon has finally taken place. For years, there had been an underlying animosity between the couple, and it seemed now that they were finally trying to make it work.
However, if we follow The Big Bang Theory canon, it becomes clear that the period of tranquility in the Cooper household was a fleeting bird. This is because in The Big Bang Theory it is mentioned that Sheldon’s parents are divorced. Since Young Sheldon is a prequel to The Big Bang Theory, it makes sense that George and Mary’s marriage will not hold on for long. With the public argument between Mary and George, their peaceful time together is now effectively over.
According to Holland’s statement, it appears that a reconciliation between Mary and George is still a possibility. The creative team behind Young Sheldon has previously created inconsistencies within The Big Bang Theory universe, asserting that they prioritize the storytelling of the family comedy over maintaining continuity.
If this is the case, it is plausible that Sheldon’s household can be restored to a state of peace, allowing Young Sheldon to focus on its unique narrative rather than being restricted by the need to adhere to continuity.
Young Sheldon season 7 is confirmed, which gives the show’s writers ample opportunity to address the strained relationship between George and Mary. However, the challenge lies in finding a way to fix their relationship given the distrust that now permeates their beings.
This could potentially pave the way for Sheldon’s poignant storyline about discovering his father’s infidelity, a highly anticipated plot-point.
