Secret Headquarters may not be the most anticipated superhero movie of 2022, but it still makes for a pretty fun watch, especially if you’re looking for something that is family-friendly and not too heavy on comic-book lore.
It centers around Jack/The Guard, who receives his powers from an alien power source that villain Ansel Argon is trying to steal. The thing is, no one knows that Jack is The Guard, not even his son Charlie.
But once Charlie discovers this, everything turns upside down and danger comes knocking right at his doorstep. Will he now be able to help his dad against Argon? How does the movie end?
At the end of Secret Headquarters, Sean Irons betrays Argon to side with Jack and Charlie, strengthening their force. This helps them defeat Argon by trapping him in another dimension so that he is never able to steal the alien power source.
Let’s do a little recap of the ending!
How do The Guard and Charlie stop Ansel Argon?
Once Charlie and his friends find his dad’s secret lair and deduce that he is The Guard, they start fooling around with the gadgets. Unbeknownst to them, this sends out a signal that can be traced back to the power source.
This, of course, is immediately detected by Argon’s head henchman, Sean Irons, who swoops in with a team to retrieve the power source. As much as Charlie, Berger, Lizzie, and Maya try to fight their best, they don’t stand much of a chance against the bad guys.
Thankfully, Jack arrives at the opportune moment before the kids get in harm’s way. Berger even tries to outsmart Irons by using a portal and sending the source to his locker in school.
Seeing no other solution, Argon steals Jack’s gadgets to make a suit of his own and even kidnaps Berger so he can try to get the source’s location out of him.
Here is where we get Irons to flip sides. He used to view Jack as the primary enemy, because he didn’t think the power source should be controlled by one person. However, he comes to realize that siding with Argon does not align with his ideology either.
So Irons joins Jack and Charlie so that they can go rescue Berger.
The final showdown of the movie happens in quite an iconic set-up: the school dance. With so many forces of good against him, Argon doesn’t stand a chance, and he ends up getting shoved into another dimension by Charlie. (That too, with a grenade — We may have not seen his death on screen, but boy is that a way to kick him out!)
Getting this close to danger and death makes Charlie understand why his father had to prioritize his superhero work over his son. But it also makes Jack realize that he cannot keep putting his son second.
The two find a good compromise by starting a father-son superhero alliance. Now that’s one heck of a team to protect the world!
