Zack Snyder explains what would’ve happened in his unmade sequel to the Justice League movie. With less than a week away from the Snyder Cut’s release, fans will finally get a glimpse into the original DCEU film that the director set out to make in 2016.
Following his departure from the project after a deeply personal tragedy, The Avengers director Joss Whedon was brought in to finish the rest of the film. However, Whedon’s Justice League was met with a lot of criticism since he changed much of the original script and reshot many of the scenes. But, all of that is about to be old news.
The upcoming 4-hour long Justice League will be Snyder’s original version of the movie, and in terms of his original five-movie plan, would’ve been the third film in the series.
It began with 2013’s Man of Steel, followed by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice three years later. Justice League was ready to shake things up like no other movie in the franchise, bringing the heroes of the DCEU together to fight against Darkseid and his evil forces.
The second installment could’ve been the DC equivalent to Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, but with Snyder’s final departure from the franchise, the future remains unknown.
However, irrespective of his leave and no confirmation yet on the second movie, the director has his vision of Justice League 2 already mapped out. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Snyder revealed where the sequel would’ve been based. According to him, the film would’ve transpired in the post-apocalyptic Knightmare future and led to a huge battle with different armies, including the Atlanteans and Themyscirans.
Even though the Snyder Cut will feature many epic action scenes and incredible fight sequences, Snyder’s statement is a testament to the upgraded scale the second movie was planned at. The upcoming movie will momentarily linger in the Knightmare world, but it would’ve been brought under much more focus in Justice League 2. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether the film will ever materialize or not.
