In the sequel to his hugely popular movie Godzilla vs. Kong, director Adam Wingard takes viewers on another wild sci-fi adventure. The brave heroes are going back to the Mysterious Hollow Earth.
Returning cast members include Rebecca Hall as Dr. Ilene Andrews, Kaylee Hottle as Jia, and Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie. Newcomer Dan Stevens, who plays the charming but reckless Titan veterinarian Trapper, joins the team.
1. How does Godzilla x Kong End?
After defeating Skar King, Godzilla returns to the surface, whereas Kong, alongside Suko and Shimo, frees the slaves that Skar King had imprisoned. It was an emotional scene, in which we saw the tears of joy in the eyes of every ape. The scene hit a nerve since it symbolizes the freedom of the apes from one of their own kind.
On the other hand, Dr. Ilene Andrews asks Jia if she wants to stay with the newly found Iwi tribe, but the little girl chooses to go with her to the surface.
2. Who is Kong’s New Ally?
The film opens with Kong arriving at the Hollow Earth after leaving Skull Island, seeking a new home. As he roams the edges of the Hollow Earth, he sees a shadow behind a smokescreen and prepares for a defensive attack.
However, before he can attack, a small ape named Suko appears. Seeing Suko’s innocent face, Kong feels pity and extends his hands towards the baby ape. But instead of showing gratitude, Suko tries to attack Kong.
Suko was not alone, and Kong soon found himself in a showdown with many other apes. However, Kong overwhelms each of them with his powers, and Suko tags along with him. Surprisingly, Suko goes on to play a significant role in the film’s final battle.
3. Did Mothra come back to life?
Mothra, the mighty Kaiju goddess, and Godzilla’s closest friend sacrificed herself in Godzilla: The King of Monsters to aid the Titans. Jia and the Iwi tribe knew only Mothra could convince Godzilla to team up with Kong against the Skar King.
The film initially suggests that Jia is the last surviving Iwi member but later reveals another Iwi tribe residing deep within the Hollow Earth. The clan’s queen seeks Jia’s help to revive Mothra through a ritual.
Jia not only assists the humans and Kong to bring Godzilla to the Hollow Earth but also provides backup for the titans as they hunt the Skar King and Shimo.
4. Be prepared for a Godzilla Transformation
From the start, we have seen Godzilla with his iconic blue spikes, making it impossible to imagine him in any other color. However, the new movie “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire” surprises us by showing Godzilla with vibrant pink spikes.
This is not just a physical change, as the mighty titan also appears to have evolved in terms of his powers. While Godzilla doesn’t get much screen time in the new film, we do see him in some epic battles. These battles were not random; Godzilla was absorbing the energy of each opponent he defeated.
As Godzilla prepares to face a new foe, he encounters the sea serpent titan Tiamet. The two engage in an intense underwater duel. Godzilla emerges victorious and shortly after, his spikes transform into a vibrant pink color, indicating his continued evolution.
5. Kong and Godzilla’s Fight with Skar King Explained
The new foe, Skar King, had appeared, and Kong and Godzilla couldn’t resist the urge to confront him and stop him from destroying the surface. While Godzilla tried to tackle Skar King, Kong jumped towards Shimo, who was under the evil ape’s influence.
Skar King possessed a crystal that allowed him to control Shimo. However, Suko saw an opportunity and crushed the crystal, freeing Shimo from Skar King’s hold when the battle reached the surface. After regaining consciousness, Shimo changed sides and froze Skar King with her ice breath.
Skar King’s eyeballs kept moving despite being fully frozen, so Kong immediately smashed the enemy into pieces, ending his story.
6. About Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is an upcoming American monster film directed by Adam Wingard. A sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), it will be the fifth film in Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse, the 38th film in the Godzilla franchise, the 13th film in the King Kong franchise, and the fifth Godzilla film to be completely produced by an American film studio.
Due to the box office and streaming success of Godzilla vs. Kong during the COVID-19 pandemic, Legendary announced a sequel in March 2022 and that filming would commence later in the year.
In May 2022, it was announced that Wingard would return to direct and Dan Stevens cast as the lead. Filming began in July 2022 in Gold Coast, Queensland, and finished in November 2022. The film is scheduled to be released on March 15, 2024.
