One Piece Chapter 1089 Breakdown: What Happens Now

The number of revelations made in chapter 1089 is insane. So much happened in the latest chapter that could never have been predicted.

1. Windmill Village flashback

The chapter begins with a flashback to Windmill Village, where Luffy’s hometown friends are reading the newspapers about the events in the New World.

They learn that Garp, Luffy’s grandfather and a legendary Marine hero, has been captured by the Blackbeard Pirates, who plan to use him as a bargaining chip with the World Government.

They also see Luffy’s face on the front page, as he is wanted for his involvement in destroying the Lulusia Kingdom. The news of Garp’s capture and Luffy’s situation reaches Makino, a barmaid who has had a close relationship with Luffy since childhood.

She holds her child, who recognizes Luffy’s face from the newspapers. Makino smiles and tells her child that Luffy is doing his best to achieve his dream of becoming the Pirate King.

2. The Mother Flame earthquake

The scene then shifts to the present, where a massive earthquake shakes the world. The quake caused the worldwide sea level to rise by roughly one meter, resulting in many islands becoming partially or fully flooded.

The earthquake is related to the destruction of the Lulusia Kingdom caused by the Mother Flame device.

This powerful weapon can manipulate magma and cause volcanic eruptions. The Mother Flame was created by Vegapunk, a scientist working for the World Government, the most outstanding scientist in the world.

The Destruction of the Lulusia Kingdom also left a Giant Hole in the Middle of the Ocean.

3. York’s revelation

The Marine fleet surrounding Egghead Island receives a call from York, who reveals herself to be a hostage of the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies.

York then asks about the fleet surrounding the island and if it is meant to be a declaration of war, but he reveals that they have changed their minds and would like her to recreate the Mother Flame.

Although she does not know who exactly desires the weapon, York confirms it can be done via the island’s power plant on the condition that they do not harm her or the laboratory, which Mars agrees to, along with her request to become a World Noble.

4. The Cliffhanger

Right after having struck a deal, York bursts into tears and begs to be saved from being killed by Luffy, much to the shock of Kizaru and the Elders. She is seen chained to the ground and surrounded by the Straw Hats with Luffy’s Sword on her neck.

All of the straw hats are shocked by this revelation, and not fully understanding the situation, Luffy assumes they will escape with York as their shield.

The chapter ends at a cliffhanger, with viewers wondering what will happen next. I have a good theory that would quench your thirst for more.

5. What Happens Now

Using York as a bargaining chip, I speculate that the Straw hats will ask the World Government fleet to retreat, making their escape along with Vegapunk, Bonny, and Lucci.

It will not be easy, though, as Admiral Kizaru is stationed on one of the ships. Viewers can expect an Epic fighting sequence between the JoyBoy and the Light Man himself!
