While manga readers are (im)patiently waiting for chapter 1050, anime viewers are reeling after the most recent release.
Episode 1018 finally reveals Kaido’s human-beast form that we first glimpsed during the opening sequence in episode 1005.
Up until this moment, Kaido has always remained in his full Azure Dragon form.
Although the episode only shows the silhouette of the hybrid form, fans believe this is going to be his most powerful transformation.
Today, I’m going to break down everything we know about Kaido’s terrific hybrid form and how much stronger it makes him.
1. What is Kaido’s Hybrid Form?
Kaido’s hybrid form is a mix of his human and dragon form. His Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, Fish-Fish, Model: Azure Dragon, gives Kaido the ability to transform into a human-dragon hybrid at will.
This form is first revealed in chapter 1003, when Kaido is battling the Worst Generation – Luffy and Zoro in particular. They are the ones who bring Kaido to his hybrid form.
2. Is Kaido’s hybrid form different from his Dragon Form?
Kaido’s human-dragon form is different from his full beast form. Zoan Devil Fruits allow the user to morph into an inter-species hybrid, as well as turn into a full animal.
In Kaido’s hybrid form, he retains his human characteristics while imbibing the power of the Azure Dragon.
His hands and feet become claws, his arm tattoo disappears, dragon fish scales emerge on his skin, six horns protrude from his head, he gains vampiric fangs, and he also grows a long tail.
3. Which form is Stronger?
The form that is stronger depends on the user and their opponent. For Kaido, his human hybrid form is stronger than his pure animal form. It gives him better speed, mobility, durability, and control, and also a better ability to use Haki.
His beast transformation makes Kaido into a dragon as big as Kuri, which is a small city. The hybrid form is not as big, and this gives him more freedom of movement.
It also lets him be more strategic with his attacks; the dragon form is hella destructive, but it is more suited to fight larger and a greater number of opponents. For a 1v1, Kaido prefers his hybrid form, as viewers will witness in upcoming episodes.
Most importantly, Kaido can use weapons infused with Haki in his hybrid form.
His Hassaikai, which is a spiked kanabo, has proven to be insanely powerful because of Kaido’s innate physical strength.
With Advanced Armament Haki (Ryou) and Advanced Conqueror’s Haki, Kaido can increase the power of his club to monstrous extents. The ongoing fight from episode 1018 will see Kaido severely injure Luffy with his Hassaikai while in his hybrid form.
On the other hand, for some characters with Zoan Fruits, their animal forms are stronger. An example would be Chopper, where his Monster Point is a demonstration of his full beast form. Monster Point Chopper is stronger than Chopper’s 7 other hybrid forms.
But other characters like Marco the Phoenix and Rob Lucci stick to their human-animal hybrid forms for most of their serious fighting.
The mere fact that Kaido’s human-dragon form was introduced after his dragon form means that he is stronger in the hybrid form.
In episode 1018, Luffy manages to damage Kaido in his animal form due to his Gear 4. Kaido changes into his blue scaly hybrid form and tells Big Mom that the fight is getting fun.
There is no reason Kaido would morph into a weaker state to be able to pummel Luffy. So, yes, the hybrid form is stronger than the pure beast form.
Note: The exception to this is his latest form, as seen in chapter 1048. In it, Kaido is in full dragon form, and it is stronger than his hybrid form.
4. Does Kaido have Multiple Hybrid Forms?
Kaido has an alternate hybrid form, as revealed in chapters 1037, 1042, and 1046. It is slightly bigger and heavier than his usual hybrid form, and his facial features turn more animalistic.
This form sees Kaido with bulkier muscles, but he still retains his combat skills.
5. Is Kaido’s Hybrid form his Awakening?
Some people believe that the hybrid or alternative hybrid form that Kaido sports may be his awakening. But Kaido’s Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit ability has never been officially announced or revealed.
Even as of the latest manga chapter, Oda hasn’t mentioned anything about Kaido’s Awakening.
6. What is Kaido’s Strongest Form?
Kaido’s strongest form is the Great Blazing Dragon Torch or the Flaming Drum Dragon form, as seen in chapter 1048.
From what we’ve seen in manga chapters, Kaido’s hybrid form is not his strongest form because Kaido’s final form is pure dragon.
Kaido turns into a giant fiery dragon made of fire that can instantly melt anything that touches it.
In this form, Kaido can use a technique known as Rising Dragon: Flame Bagua, which is his strongest move to date.
If anything comes close to Kaido’s Awakening, it is his Kaen Daiko.
7. Conclusion
Kaido’s hybrid form is sure going to prove troublesome for Luffy.
In the anime, Gear 4 Luffy has only just managed to slice through his scales. Kaido’s human-dragon form will be too much of a match for Luffy, who is totally burnt out.
But as any One Piece manga reader will tell you: wait and watch. The battle has only just begun.
