Ms. Marvel’s powers have been a question since episode 1. Fans wanted to know Kamala Khan’s abilities and their origins. While it is still unclear, episode 3 gives us a few answers about where her powers come from. So let’s dive right in.
Ms. Marvel could potentially be a Djinn/ClanDestine. ClanDestines are a group of enhanced individuals from another dimension. Their source of power and living is Noor/Light. The bangle is a relic/artifact to access that power.
In episode 3, Najma tells the story of Aisha and her group of ClanDestines. Back in 1942, the group was trying to return to their home. For this, they needed two bangles, but only one was found. This is the one being worn by Kamala Khan in the show.
Kamala Khan’s origin story and powers in the MCU are pretty different from those in the comics. Here’s what we know of them so far:
Ms. Marvel’s Powers and Abilities in the MCU
- Kamala Khan can create different shapes and objects. These include steps, a large hulk-like fist, shields, and more. These appear to be in the form of a radiant purple-ish blue energy.
- Kamala can also see visions through a portal. While we don’t know if these are premonitions or mere signs that guide her towards something, it is an ability nonetheless.
- Besides this, she can change her body shape at will. This can be seen when she creates the hulk-fist or when she herself flattens to become paper-thin.
As of now, this is all we know of her powers. The origins of this lie in Najma’s story. According to her, Kamala is a ClanDestine. These inter-dimensional beings’ powers originate from Noor – Light. Noor enables us to age much more slowly and gives each ClanDestine/Djinn a specific skillset.
In episode 3, Kamala and Najma see a vision where a train labeled Karachi is coming toward them. Later on, her grandmother, Muneeba, tells how even she saw the Karachi train and the entire family must immediately go there.
So, hopefully, we’ll have more answers about the origins of Ms. Marvel’s powers and also the abilities/skillsets she possesses.
Ms. Marvel’s Powers and Abilities in Marvel Comics
In the Marvel comics, Ms. Marvel is an Inhuman. Her powers originate from the Terrigen Mist, a form of cosmic energy. She is exposed to this, and instead of succumbing to it, she gains powers because of her Inhuman DNA.
Her abilities are similar to those depicted in the Disney+ series. She can change her own shape and size at will while also creating objects. A key difference is a way these shapes manifest. These look less blob-like and more like hard-light constructs.
Ms. Marvel Episode 4 airs on Disney+ next week, Wednesday. So, you can tune in to learn more about Ms. Marvel/Kamal Khan’s origins and understand how powerful she is.
