Wes Anderson is coming back in the summer of 2023 to work his movie magic with a star-studded cast of Hollywood A-Listers. After 2021’s prominent hit The French Dispatch, his next film Asteroid City will hit theaters in June 2023.
The film, described as a “poetic meditation on the meaning of life,” is set in a fictional desert town in America, where a country-wide Junior Stargazer Convention is thrown into chaos after some disrupting world-changing events uproot the event.
While little is known about the film’s plot and characters, we can expect a grand success in the making if Anderson is behind the camera. And not only that, but his cast is filled to the brim with top-notch actors such as Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie, Tilda Swinton, Scarlet Johansson, Rupert Friend, Jeff Goldblum, Steve Carell, Maya Hawke, and Jeffrey Wright.

The film’s now set for a soft release on June 16, 2023, possibly for a Cannes selection, distributed by Focus Features. Universal Pictures International will then take over worldwide film distribution, releasing on June 23, 2023.
While Anderson’s movies never fail at the box office or the critics’ room, the release date raises a genuine concern for the film. Asteroid City’s worldwide release date coincides with that of DCU’s The Flash and will face an even bigger threat a week later when Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hits cinemas.
Of course, the film will have no problem breaking even and making a profit with Anderson’s talent and a budget of $25 million. Still, the afro mentioned films will definitely prove to be worthy adversaries to the Wes Anderson film, but isn’t keeping faith and hope one of the bigger lessons learned in life?

We really do have something to learn from Asteroid City when they explain their take on the meaning of life, but we’ll have to wait till June 2023 for that moment.
