Jason Momoa has a lot on his plate with promotion for two of his upcoming films starting soon. But the Aquaman actor has no plans to stop anytime soon since he is also going to star in a Minecraft film by Warner Bros. And now the movie based on the famous video game finally has a release date!
As reported by Deadline, Warner Bros finally revealed that the mystery film for which they’ve been saving the date of April 4, 2025, was none other than Minecraft. The report also states Aquaman 2 will release earlier than predicted, on December 20, 2023.
While Jason Momoa’s involvement gives us some security for this release date, I remain a bit cautious. The Minecraft movie has been in production off and on since 2014, and the studio even set a date in March 2022 for a potential release. Of course, WB didn’t keep that promise, or I’d have no reason to write this piece.
Peter Sollett, who’s directed comedy-dramas like Metal Lords, was initially brought in as the film’s director but was later dropped. Frozen II’s writer Allison Schroeder was also hired but she too parted from the project.
Jared Hess, known for his work on comedy films like Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, will direct the 2025 film.
Jason Momoa will probably don the role of Steve, who’s the most playable character in Mojang Studios’ sandbox game. Apart from that you’ll just have to wait for more news and stick to playing the game for a while longer.
Worry not! I’ll stick my ear close to the ground for more information on the Minecraft movie, so stay tuned to Cine Dope!
