“Every choice changes us,” says Pachinko’s trailer as it takes viewers through four generations of an epic saga.
Starring nation’s heartthrob Lee Min-ho, Oscar-winner Youn Yuh-jung, Jin Ha, and debutante Kim Min-ha, Apple TV+’s Pachinko offers an unforgettable family saga set across three nations – Japan, Korea, and America.
The trailer shows the contrasting difference in the life of Sunja, the eldest, and how her choices make her family reach the position they are in in the present. Kim Min-ha plays the teenage Sunja while Youn Yuh-jung plays the old Sunja, who narrates the story.
It also shows the moments Sunja’s life changed when she met the handsome Koh Hansu (Lee Min-ho), a wealthy Korean from Japan.
Her choice to let Hansu take care of her, away from the ragged life she has been living, defines her coming generation where her grandsons can stay miles away from the struggle she has been through; yet, face their difficulties to fit in.
Pachinko’s emotional trailer constantly shifts between the 20th and 21st century and draws comparisons with the life Sunja lived and her grandson, Solomon Baek (Jin Ha). The stereotypes of being a Korean immigrant family finding ways to make another country their homeland remains a constant attempt by the characters.
The show breathes life into the 2017 New York Times Best Seller trilogy of the same name by Lee Min-jin and spans from the life of Sunja’s father to her grandsons.
With the star-studded cast and Apple’s foray into Korean entertainment, the appeal for Pachinko rises by multitudes. The show will only comprise eight episodes and is helmed by Kogonada and Justin Chon.
The wait for Lee Min-ho and Youn Yuh-jung greeting fans on the screen will be over when Pachinko premieres on Apple TV+ on March 25.
