WATATEN! is nothing if not the fairytale of an introvert. The anime is a comfort zone for anyone who loves nothing better than a simplistic life. Delicious baked food, cute clothes, and a handful of friends, what else can one need?
Miyako, the series’s protagonist, is a highly relatable character (for me, atleast).
She can hardly make any friends, is awkward with strangers, and she looks upon her new friend as if she is an angel. Yep, all these traits are painfully familiar to an introvert.
The official website of the WATATEN!: An Angel Flew Down to Me anime has revealed that the series is getting an anime movie. A new trailer for the series is also released.
The trailer begins with the first meeting of Miyako and Hana. Hana is a friend of Miyako’s sister. Miyako is captivated by Hana’s cuteness and bribes her with baked goodies to try out some clothes designed by her.
With starry-eyed characters, mouth-watering food, and a representation of Miyako, Hinata, and Hana’s peaceful daily lives, the trailer fulfills every criterion of a slice-of-life series.
A new visual is also revealed for the upcoming movie.
The visual shows Miyako, her sister, Hinata, and Hinata’s friends, having the time of their lives. Miyako may be socially awkward, but she has gradually befriended Hinata’s classmates through her baking skills and caring nature.
WATATEN!: An Angel Flew Down to Me also has a 12-episode anime series that aired in 2019. An OVA was revealed in May 2019. Crunchyroll streamed both the anime and the OVA.
The original manga of the series is a 4-koma/4-panel manga, but it is a small, fun-packed bomb. The release date and plot of the anime movie has not been revealed yet.

WATATEN is a Yuri comedy anime based on Nanatsu Mukunoki’s Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita! Manga. The four-panel manga was released in 2016 and features the story of Miyako Hoshino, a otaku with cosplay fetish.
Miyako becomes obsessed with her sister’s friend Hana and makes her wear different cosplay outfits. The two girls bond over food, cosplay and friendship.
An anime adaptation was made in 2019 by Studio Doga Kobo which ran for 12 episodes and a special OVA was also aired.
A new anime project is announced by their official website.
