50,000 Players Banned in a Day by CoD: Warzone’s Ricochet Anti-Cheat

Call of Duty: Warzone has easily become one of the most played battle royale games currently in the market, but it isn’t without its flaws. The game requires constant patching to fix issues, and bugs players run into, but there is a problem not even the developer team can handle: cheaters and hackers.

Since its launch, Warzone has been prey to numerous exploits and third-party tools like aimbot, killing through solid barriers, wall hacks, and many more.

Raven Studios, Warzone’s developer, has announced ban waves in the past, but this is a temporary solution to a problem that rears its head once more after some time. Players continued to express their frustrations caused by these hackers as matches were being ruined, and Activision announced a more permanent solution through the Ricochet anti-cheat system

This system was implemented in Warzone once it was merged with Call of Duty: Vanguard.

The anti-cheat was launched on December 7th, and implementation continued for the following week. It appears that the system has had a significant impact on the game’s ecosystem since then.

It forced popular Warzone cheat sellers to shut shop, and the system continues to analyze the game’s data to learn patterns and trends. All the issues are not fixed yet, but players’ experience has improved dramatically since the system went online.

The Call of Duty Twitter account posted an update confirming that Ricochet had banned close to 50,000 players on December 21st for both Warzone and Vanguard. This is excellent news for Warzone players, but the kernel-level system will have to keep adapting and changing as hackers try and find ways to circumvent the anti-cheat.

Not all players praise the system, though, as some have said they have gotten banned even though they never cheated or hacked in-game. While these claims have yet to be verified, it isn’t difficult to imagine a completely automated system having some slip-ups here and there. Hopefully, these players can appeal their bans and get back into the game soon.
