Riddle me this: The sound of his laugh sends chills down your spine. I bet another clown crossed your mind, but it’s now someone else’s time to terrify the Dark Knight.
Warner Bros just dropped a Japanese trailer for DC’s upcoming The Batman film, and it gives us new shots of Paul Dano as the Riddler.
The editing and music are slightly different, too, with the film’s theme suddenly leaning a lot more towards a psychological-thriller genre with darker undertones.
The Riddler is heard saying, “I’m here to unmask the truth about this city,” and that includes Batman as well. The trailer ends with Bruce taking off his mask and revealing his face as the Riddler laughs hysterically, saying he’s been trying to reach him.
In the first official trailer, it looked like the Riddler was waiting to get arrested at the diner. This probably must be an attempt to get closer to Bruce as the new clip emphasizes the way they meet, with Riddler more than pleased to see him even behind bars.
Barry Keoghan, who was cast in the film as Gotham PD officer, might have a more significant role and is rumored to be the Joker. So, it’s understandable how some might confuse the laugh in the end to be that of the iconic villain, but it’s definitely Dano’s voice.

Time and time again, director Matt Reeves has mentioned that this film will be a darker, personal, and more emotional take on these characters.
The audience will witness the struggles that a younger version of Bruce Wayne has to deal with before he matures into the classic superhero that we all love.
The Batman comes out in theatres March 4, 2022 – we’ll get to see Robert Pattinson’s version of Bruce a short while before we get Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s versions in The Flash film.

Set in the parallel universe Earth-2, the movie will be separate from the rest of the DCEU canon.
