Warner Bros. Discovery recently revealed information about their updated streaming platform, Max.
The media group has been considering the launch of a restructured streaming service for some time now since the merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery happened in 2022. As reported in December 2022, the name of the combined service would be Max, merging the existing HBO Max and Discovery+.
Finally, Warner Bros. Discovery has officially launched their new streaming service, Max, for the world. Check out the launch video here –
On May 23rd, Max will make available a selection of content derived from HBO Max’s assorted collection of movies, series, and exclusive content, along with reality, culinary, and lifestyle programming sourced from their home channels like Food Network, TLC, and Discovery. The rebranded platform promises various new and exciting features compared to the existing version a.k.a HBO Max.
The President & CEO of Global Streaming & Games for Warner Bros. Discovery, J.B. Perrette, has clearly stated –
From the biggest superheroes to real life champions; from culture-shaping dramas to taste-shaping entertainment; from fantastical realms to the realest of worlds, Max will offer an unrivaled range of choice. This new brand signals an important change from two narrower products, HBO Max and Discovery+, to our broader content offering and consumer proposition. While each product offered something for some people, Max will have a broad array of quality choices for everybody.

Replacing HBO Max, Max will incorporate content from the Discovery section of the enterprise into the streaming service. Although Discovery+ will remain a separate streaming service like it is now, viewers will be able to access its content from Max itself.
The new platform will have three payment tiers as per the disclosed details: Max Ad-Lite for $9.99 per month, Max Ad Free for $15.99 per month, and Max Ultimate Ad Free for $19.99 per month. Existing HBO Max subscribers will retain access to their “Continue Watching” and “My List” selections after the transformation.
Additionally, Max will offer more superior features, including top-quality video playback, more options for customization and viewer-friendly navigation tools. New subscribers will be able to create a kids’ profile, including fresh, original content for children such as Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai and Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge.
Moreover, unlike HBO Max, only Max Ultimate Ad Free subscribers will have access to 4K Ultra HD in this new plan.
This change from HBO Max to Max is indicative of Warner Bros. Discovery’s new identity after the merger. Consolidating all of the media company’s streaming content into a single platform signals Warner Bros. Discovery’s intention to concentrate on OTT content.
Max already looks quite exciting on paper, with new series like a Harry Potter reboot and a Big Bang Theory spinoff in the line-up. We’re really excited to see what this new avenue has in store for us and we’re sure you are too!
