Avengers Endgame is undeniably the biggest movie in the history of franchise movies. It brought about the culmination of Phase 3 of the MCU with some drastic changes. WandaVision is the second installment (Spider-Man: Far From Home being the first) and the first series in the massively anticipated Phase 4 of the Marvel movies. What can we look forward to in the series?

WandaVision is a bridge that will connect the aftermath of Avengers Endgame and the new ventures of the MCU like X-Men and Daredevil.
I.Plot
The first frame of the trailer shows the titular heroes in a ‘Just Married’ car revealing that they just got married.
Wanda Maximoff and Vision are trying to live a happy, suburban life away from the trials and tribulations of their superhero lives.
Wanda and Vision’s looks change a few times in the trailer along with their house.
The viewers are also introduced to some of their neighbors. Among them is Agnes, a loud and nosy neighbor who makes life irritable for the couple.
Another elderly couple is introduced to the viewers with whom Wanda and Vision are shown to share dinner dates.
But the trailer makes it very clear that the events are not happening in the normal reality. One can only wonder what Wanda is up to.
II.Detailed Analysis
WandaVision scores with the trailer itself. It is bound to pique the curiosity of the viewers but does not give much of the story away.
With WandaVision, Marvel also steps into, what seems like, the sitcom genre.
Wanda’s many looks and the couple’s various houses are a shout out to some of the most popular sitcoms in television history.
The black and white scenes in the first part of the trailer and Wanda’s classic updo is a reminder of the Brady Bunch. The scene where Wanda magically removes Vision’s robotic face to put on his human one is a reference to Bewitched! The trailer also touches upon family ties in some scenes.
Of course, the sitcom world is just one part of the show. After all, it is a Marvel show that deals with superheroes.
The two were last seen together in Avengers Infinity War. Vision dies after Thanos takes the Mind Stone from his forehead. When Thanos had snapped his fingers, Wanda too had died with half the population of the world.
But she was brought back by the original Avengers in Endgame. Vision, however, could not be brought back.
This leads to the speculation that the Vision in the show is nothing more than a figment of Wanda’s imagination. She wanted a peaceful life with Vision for a long time and both of them had moved away at the beginning of Infinity War. It is probable that Wanda is creating a reality that she wants, where Vision is alive and they are living a ‘normal’ life.
This is where their neighbor Agnes comes in. Fan theories suggest that she is not just their nosy neighbor but a magical being, most probably a witch, who works for one of the classic Marvel villains Mephisto.
She has something to do with Wanda creating this warped reality and the elderly couple who are seen asking them all kinds of existential questions are devices to Mephisto’s devilish plans.
The series is supposed to be something similar to an origin story for Scarlet Witch since she has not been called by her alias in the Avengers movies. MCU fans had already seen what Wanda is capable of in the Phase 3 movies, WandaVision will only build on her awesome powers.
The show is also supposed to lay the foundation for the mutant universe in MCU in which the new X-Men movies will be set. New Mutants, the new X-Men movie, is part of the MCU.
The trailer shows a frame in which Wanda and Vision have two twins. In the comics, their twin sons Speed and Wiccan are members of the Young Avengers. This might be an Easter egg since a Young Avengers film is supposed to be happening in the MCU.
III.Characters
Not much is known about the characters in WandaVision yet.
Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany return as Wanda Maximoff and Vision.
Their nosy neighbor and the show’s comic relief Agnes is being played by Kathryn Hahn.
Kat Dennings and Randall Park reprise their previous roles in the Phase 3 movies- Park as Jimmy Woo, an FBI agent who appeared in the second Ant-Man movie and Dennings as Darcy Lewis, a political science major who appeared in Thor: The Dark World.
Teyonnah Parris plays Monica Rambeau, who, in the comics, is known to be the second Captain Marvel.
5.Final Thoughts
Scarlet Witch is often considered to be the most powerful Avenger. Her powers of telepathy and telekinesis provide a huge scope for cinematic creativity. From the trailer, it seems that WandaVision will put that to good use.
This show might be the farthest that Marvel has stretched from its formulaic superhero story. It might be their best creative venture yet.
WandaVision is definitely worth checking out. It might even be the reason to get a Disney Plus subscription.
