‘WandaVision’ Showrunner Talks About the Upcoming Episodes

WandaVision released episode 4 of the series this week, and it did well to tie up a lot of loose ends. It answered some of the burning questions that fans had, and the series is finally beginning to make (just a little) sense.

While WandaVision has been receiving endless amounts of praise for its unique approach, some fans have also expressed disappointment over the episodes’ release schedule. But fear not, those who are not okay with the pacing, because showrunner Jac Shaeffer told The Playlist that the future episodes will have exciting developments.

When we were early, early working on [WandaVision], it wasn’t known what the rollout would be. So, the question was less about the binge-ability or dropping them weekly, it was more about how long can we keep the sitcom gig going?

How much to reveal about the larger mystery? How much will be in the MCU space versus how much will be in the authentic sitcom space? That was always a question. And a concern, really. But we were all very unified in seeing how far we can take it. And if we could truly create a sitcom featuring [Wanda and Vision].

Sheaffer also emphasized that every episode from this point on will unlock something exciting. But then, all the earlier episodes have had exciting elements, too. So, we can assume that Sheaffer is hinting towards the ‘Marvel-ous’ aspect of MCU projects. And as we know, it is easier to get a tree to talk than to make a Marvel show maker give out spoilers.

The criticism about the show’s pacing wasn’t much of a surprise to me, since Marvel fans are currently used to the fast-paced blockbuster length. Having to wait for episodes is frustrating, but it is a good strategy to make fans keep coming back every week and keep the show in talks throughout the run.

Whether or not the show stays true to what Shaeffer says about the future episodes is yet to be seen. The next episode of WandaVision comes out on February 5, 2021.
