Jac Schaeffer Reveals Kevin Feige’s Support for WandaVision

WandaVision has become one of Marvel’s top-rated projects to date and much of its acclaim is due to its unique storytelling. Ever since the show’s first trailer dropped, Marvel fans have been taken aback by the surprising way the plot builds up- in the world of sitcoms. Now, the head writer of WandaVision has revealed that Marvel president, Kevin Feige, was all for the novel and slow approach to the show’s story.

WandaVision is the first television series to be directly related to the MCU. The show’s first episode kickstarted Phase 4 of the MCU and plopped protagonists Wanda Maximoff and Vision in an idyllic suburban neighborhood called Westview. The couple tries to live a happy, married life but soon realizes that not everything is as it seems.

Each episode in WandaVision pays tribute to the most popular sitcoms of the decade- the first episode alluded to The Dick Van Dyke Show and I Love Lucy from the 50s and 60s, and the second episode was a homage to the popular show Bewitched. The latest episode jumped into the 70s with a The Brady Bunch inspired episode.

With every episode, the writers have been leaving clues about what is going on in the real world- the world beyond Wanda’s simulation. WanadaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer has shared that the slow burn technique- something that is rare in superhero movies and television shows- was fully supported by Marvel president Kevin Feige. She said-

“When we were putting the show together, we knew sort of what a lot of the really big moments would be, and they’re mapped out. I wanted to start small. Kevin was 100% in for doling it out slowly. And I think he also has a lot of faith in the fans and the Marvel audience, that they’re so interested in paying attention and they know they’ll be rewarded, so we started out slow.”

While most of the viewers have applauded the show’s slow-burn storytelling, not everyone is of the same opinion. The larger section of MCU fans have enjoyed picking apart the different episodes in search of clues to piece together the bigger picture, but another section has called it boring.

However, fans have been promised that the finale of WandaVision is nothing short of a full-blown action movie, so the fans might have to stick around for a little while longer to see the show in its full glory.
