Paramount Pictures Signs Former DC Head to Oversee Horror Team

Paramount Pictures signs an exclusive deal with the former controversial DC Studios head, Walter Hamada in which he takes over as the head of the horror team.

Hamada had been a part of the comic book industry for long until Ray Fisher accused him of undermining the investigation into the allegations made against John Whedon during Justice League’s promotions.

Previously, Hamada has also headed the horror team at New Line, where he oversaw the making of iconic horror films such as The Conjuring and IT. It goes without saying that he has suitable experience in producing horror.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Walter Hamada has signed an exclusive deal to oversee the horror team at Paramount Pictures. He is expected to produce and release a number of mid-budget horror films for both theaters and the streaming platform.

Brian Robbins, CEO and President of Paramount Pictures also shared his excitement about working with Hamada. Robbins believes that Hamada is the ideal person to turn their horror films into success.

Hamada joined DC at a crucial time in 2018, after the departure of Zack Snyder. He refused to follow the MCU’s path of establishing a shared universe and reality. Instead, he focused on standalone films set in different realities, such as Joker and The Batman.

Hamada’s DC films received immense critical acclaim. The Joker won two Academy Awards for Best Score and Best Actor respectively, while The Batman remains one of the best-rated DC movies in the recent past. Hamada’s projects stand out not just as good standalone films but as unique superhero origin stories as well.

Thus, we can expect fresh and exciting new projects from the horror team of Paramount Pictures after Hamada takes over. He may choose to develop previously established franchises, such as the Conjuring franchise, or focus on standalone films.
