Since Nexstar acquired 75% of all the CW, the network was brought down to continuing only five scripted shows, which soon dwindled to three. Under Nexstar’s deal with CW, All American would definitely be one of the three, and the CW execs were free to choose the rest. And thus, Walker slides in safe with a season 4 renewal!
Deadline confirmed the news yesterday, two days ahead of the show’s season 3 finale. The show, starring Supernatural star Jared Padalecki, is a reboot of the 1990 series of the same name and will continue into season 4. But alas, its spinoff, Walker: Independence, was not so lucky and was canceled after airing just one season.
The Walker star and CW’s President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz celebrated the news, releasing a statement praising the show’s success and continued opportunity to add more to the story. Read the complete comments below:
I’m so excited and grateful to continue the Walker legacy for another season alongside our partners at CBS Studios and The CW. We can’t wait to make Season 4 bigger and better than ever and to lasso even more fans into the Walker family. Let’s ride! –Jared Padalecki
Over the past three seasons, ‘Walker’ has become the top-performing series on The CW with a passionate fanbase and a fantastic cast and creative team led by Jared Padalecki, who has now been a leading man on the network for over twenty years.
As we build a great big new future for the CW, we are thrilled to be staying in business with our partners at CBS Studios, and we cannot wait to have ‘Walker’ back on the schedule. – Brad Schwartz
Up till now, CW has only renewed All American and Walker for new seasons in the upcoming 2023-2024 season.
Many shows like Riverdale, The Flash, and Nancy Drew are wrapping up their last seasons since the acquisition, knowing they must end it on their own terms rather than getting axed. I mean, after the fate of other shows like Legacies, Legends of Tomorrow, and more, they were right to do so.
Other shows like Gotham Knights, The Winchesters, Superman & Lois, Kung Fu, and the All-American spinoff have yet to hear from the network. However, chances look bleak for most since there is only one spot to fill.
My money is on Superman & Lois and The Winchesters. Which do you think will make the cut? Drop your answers below!
