Viz Media to Raise Manga Volume Prices Starting January 2024

For quite some time, Viz Media has been the most famous and leading publisher of anything related to manga. As the media has grown in popularity in recent years in North America and other nations, sales are at an all-time high.

According to a number of Viz manga listings for 2024, the publishers aim to hike the price of their manga volumes for the first time in over fifteen years. While Viz has not officially confirmed this, the writing appears on the wall.

Viz Media will increase manga prices from US$9.99 per volume to US$11.99 per volume beginning from January 2024, according to ICv2. The price increase will apply to new volumes of ongoing series and any new series launched by the company.

Popular Shonen Jump titles such as My Hero Academia and others, according to Amazon and Barnes & Noble websites, are currently showing the updated price structure for new volumes slated to arrive in 2024.

MHA Volume 36, for example, is now priced at $9.99 for a December 2023 release, while Volume 37, set for a March 2024 release, is priced at $11.99.

If we compare Viz Media’s increased prices to other publishing companies like Kodansha, Yen Press, and others, it can be seen that their prices are still relatively cheaper.

According to ICv2, Viz Media has made no statements regarding this decision to increase manga prices, so the reason behind the decision is still a mystery.

While many fans have shown their displeasure regarding the decision, it’s best to wait for the response from Viz Media. What do you think of the upcoming manga price increase at Viz? Feel free to let us know in the comments section.
