Thorfinn begins understanding a bit more about friendship in episode 6 of Vinland Saga season 2, titled “We Need A Home.”

As Einar and Thorfinn continue to carry on their work, their need for a horse drives them to ask around the farm and eventually come into contact with the most critical person. They make a deal, which pays off grandly for them.

Snake and Sverkel have an interesting dynamic as they quarrel and fight while both know they love each other deep down, and Thorfinn and Einar pick up on it very quickly; it proves a completely new experience for Thorfinn.

We will likely see more interactions between the master and Sverkel, as they conflict entirely in ideas and philosophies. We may also see Snake try and increase the security force of the farm since it is currently too less to protect all this land.

Thorfinn and Einar have their jobs made much easier thanks to the old master, but this may spell the calm before the storm as the other masters are getting jealous and annoyed at their fortune.

3. Recap of Episode 6

Einar and Thorfinn are hard at work as they continue clearing the woods to the best of their ability, struggling to take out stumps. Unable to move one of the stumps, they cut its roots and are completely exhausted by the end of it.

With the effort they take for one stump, it is only possible to complete their job with a horse, and Einar requests permission for a horse. However, they decline his request and say they have none to spare.

Thorfinn remains unmotivated about the ordeal and has a different energy than Einar about getting a horse. He is super energetic and determined to talk to the master, but an older man interrupts their conversation.

He beckons them over, asks their names, and offers to lend them a horse. However, it is not for free as they have to help him out with picking up large rocks from his field, Einar asks Sverkel how long they have to pick rocks, and he gets the answer he dreaded.

After they’re done, Sverkel makes them carry the basket back to the shed and continues piling tasks on top of tasks. Einar and Thorfinn chop logs for him and start because they may get scammed.

Thorfinn has already accepted that it doesn’t matter what happens to them since they’re enslaved and continues with whatever he is told to do. Sverkel follows through and lends them a horse.

With the help of the horse, the stumps are quickly taken out, and their job is made much more accessible. Einar is proud of his work and laughs joyfully on the walk back home while they talk about their homelands, a farmer’s life, to a warrior.

The enslavers are astonished that Sverkel would ever lend them a horse, being the old master and known to be a crabby annoyed man. They even borrow a plow from the old master, and Thorfinn is astonished at the pace of the work they can accomplish.

Einar and Thorfinn wait outside Sverkel’s house as he finishes a conversation with his son, Ketil. He tells them to wash their clothes and Einar finds Snake sleeping on the bed, who wakes up immediately at the smell of food.

Snake and Sverkel continue arguing over the meal as the enslaved people enjoy some good food for once, and he says that the security force of the farm is still too small. He asks Thorfinn for his opinion since he knows of his strength.

Sverkel talks of the foolishness of hoarding too much wealth, leading to more anxiety and danger for yourself. Snake heads out to patrol as Thorfinn and Einar walk back to the shed, a day full of new experiences for Thorfinn.
