Canute begins to put his plans underway as the new King of Denmark in episode 11 of Vinland Saga season 2, titled “Kings and Swords.”

The King has continued making schemes and plans as he manages to acquire wealth and land beyond his imagination with each possible step. Ketil, who visited hoping to see Harald, has now been disappointed at his sudden death and moves to meet Canute instead.

Leif has reappeared yet again, refuses to give up the search for Thorfinn, and has finally met a direct mutual with the boy. He tries to visit Ketil’s farm, but his multiple failed tries have now lost the trust of his boat captains.

Leif will find a way to get to Ketil’s farm since he now highly suspects that the boy he spoke of is the same Thorfinn he knows and is searching for. However, the way he gets there will be completely unexpected.

Canute will hire Olmar even though his skills with the sword could be better and is no way of a warrior’s standard. However, he is cooking a secret plan in which a foolish Nord would play the perfect role.

The Majesty and Wulf go sword to sword in combat, and the Majesty somehow keeps up with Wulf even through the gap in skill and being clad in immensely weighted armor; for someone who used to hate swords and fighting in them, he is doing much better than expected.

Canute slyly baits Wulf into looking away during the fight, throws his shield to distract him, and quickly gets into position to make him concede. After the training session, he looks over his duties.

He holds a Danish army stationary and is paying for it straight from the funds of England and is quickly running low because of the people’s discontent. He discusses the idea of squeezing funds out of Denmark to maintain the army and his military might.

Ketil hears the news of Harald’s passing and realizes that if Thorgil has come personally to see him, Canute must be here too. Since he has lost the backing of Harald, he decides to move on to the next King of Denmark and asks him to arrange a meeting with Canute.

Olmar has already wandered off and started picking fights with random strangers on the street, and he even pulls his sword out. Ketil quickly interrupts the battle and gives him a big punch to the head, and the stranger’s father also walks in, Leif himself.

Leif has named his son Thorfinn, and Ketil talks of how he also knows a boy named Thorfinn Leif quickly starts questioning him about his appearance and background and finds all the boxes have been checked off so far and decides to visit the farm.

Canute agrees to meet with Ketil and everyone’s surprised at how easily the meeting was arranged considering his current status. They kneel before the King as he praises Ketil’s gifts and contribution to the nation of Denmark.

Olmar gets up with no permission and begs the King to join his army, and even goes to draw the sword in the presence of Canute. Something that would be considered a grave offense, but Canute is amused and lets him demonstrate his skills which can barely even cut open a pig.

Canute and the Captain discuss Olmar from their room and decide that even though he is worthless as a warrior, he would be extremely helpful to their new plan since he is foolish and would act as they predict.
