The once cowardly prince of the King of England has grown to the point where he poisons his very own brother in order to take control of all the land in the North Sea. Lying through his teeth and acting the role of a concerned king, Canute has come far from his beginnings.

Einar and Thorfinn are on the verge of becoming free men, yet they still cannot decide what to do after it. Einar has no one waiting for him in his homeland, and Thorfinn still needs to figure out his path in life.

Thorfinn and Einar’s bodies show the fruition of their work over many years as they finally managed to clear the entirety of the forest and bring a wilderness into a farm. Pater has also said that with the next harvest, their freedom is bought.

Einar asks him what he plans to do once he’s free, and he expresses his worry about Arnheid, but the master has no intention of letting her go. Thorfinn also needs to figure out what to do and considers the possibility of returning to Iceland.

He wants to rid the world of war and slavery and has a severe look on his face which Einar acknowledges. The master also reaches the farm and showers them with praise, and as a reward, says that their freedom is bought once they’re done sowing the following seeds; Thorfinn and Einar pretend to be ecstatic.

The master visits King Harald, tells them he will be back in time for planting, and even offers them a job on the farm as retainers. Canute is also on the way to Harald, and sails through a mighty storm completely asleep. 

Back in his homeland, he asks about his brother Harald who has been sick for an extended period of time. The doctors say that the next few days will be critical to treating his condition, which prompts Canute to remember his childhood with his brother, where they played together.

Harald had no heirs as he fell sick and lay in bed; Canute visits his bed as he lies near, unable to move. He slowly raises a hand and holds Canute, giving up Denmark to his brother, which prompts a sly smile from the king of England.

However, a vision appears that reveals the truth behind the matter, Canute had poisoned Harald purely to pursue his ambitions to rule over all of the North Sea, and he now falls under the crown’s curse. 

Canute takes one last parting look at his brother as he leaves the room forever. He sits in his room as he cannot take his mind off his troubles, and Sweyn vocalizes everything his unconscious worries about the most; his current situation makes him relate even to the person he hated the most.
