Chapter 193 of Vinland Saga, titled “Thousand Year Voyage Part 2”, shows a time of calm and peace among the Norsemen. The Norse seem to have settled down with houses and even farms growing wheat of their own.
This peace does not look like a lasting one as there is already some conflict brewing between the Norsemen who are the settlers and the natives. Settlers in Markland have gone missing and the rumors have already begun running their course.
The natives too believe that the Norse are invaders in their lands. Some plan to drive them out while the rest being wiser wish to learn their ways and maintain peace. In a classic case between the stubborn old and the adaptable young, there seems to be friction, the kind that may start a fire.

The vision has been brought up for the first time and is already becoming a source of some real arguments among the natives.
The seer seems to be on the move to some objective that we cannot quite be certain of but the one thing we can be absolutely sure of is the fact that the man is up to no good.
He could very well be on his way to creating some artificial reasons that might finally push the already spooked and paranoid settlers over the edge and into hasty action. This could potentially destroy whatever chance of peace we had but it also seems like one of the most plausible theories.

The settlers are enjoying their time of peace on the new lands as they have now settled down. The Norse have built their houses and have begun farming their own food instead of relying on the forces of nature to provide for them.
They have gone so far as to make peaceful contact with the native residents of the lands.
Although, it looks like there is already trouble on the horizon as certain settlers have gone missing.
Throrfinn tries to settle the people down by making it clear that the ones who attacked the Markland settlers and the natives, the Gipti Tribe, are entirely different.
He simply wishes to stop any conflict before it even has a chance to brew but the people have already started giving in to fear and paranoia, the kind that leads to prejudice.
The settlers have now begun to doubt the natives. A development that only helps the potential conflict because the seeds of doubt and hatred are also being sown on the natives’ side.
The seer of the Gipti tribe believes them to be invaders to their lovely land and wishes to drive them out. However, that is the unpopular opinion there since his claims only fall on deaf ears.
He tries to appeal to Pulmuk, a young member of the tribe who was shown to be quite brash in the previous chapters but turns out to be oddly wise and a big fan of the Norse ways.
He points out that the seer’s visions might be true but he has not seen them, what he can see is the progress that the Norse have been making, and wishes to learn from them. The chief believes in the same ideology and tries to drive out the seer’s reservations.
It turns out to be a futile effort since in the final panels of the chapter we come across a rather determined seer off try his own ways to drive off the invaders and he is prepared to do anything.
