Vargar and his men got caught trying to stalk a ship carrying gold. He met Thorfinn and had an odd talk about Ragnarok.
Thorfinn needed strong sailors and asked Vargar and his men to join him. In the end, Vargar found serving under Thorfinn to be a blessing which changed his perspective.

1. Chapter 191 Discussion and Speculation
Vinland Saga gave us a flashback chapter, which connects with the previous chapter when you think about it. The last chapter was on humanity’s doom, while this chapter had the same talk but with an in-depth dive into it.
The future is defiantly in the hands of one’s life till they face Ragnarok. With Thorfinn questioning the prophecy, will the Nordic people face an unexpected turn of events later? Is all this talk of doom predicting that Thorfinn and his people will face extreme challenges?
In the next chapter, the manga states Thorfinn will become a warrior like his father. I’m excited to see how Thorfinn will show the traits of a warrior in the new settlements. It seems we might get a flashback on his father, Thors.

Episode 191 of the Vinland Saga anime has been released on Thursday, Feb 24, 2022. The episode title or preview has not been shown.

4. Recap of Chapter 190
This chapter starts with Vargar recalling how the Jomsvikings’s fate changed as they disbanded. The commander back then, Thorfinn, separated the Jomsvikings, making the warriors have nothing else to do.
Vargar realized the Jomsvikings knew nothing other than battle, which would earn them bread in return. Since times changed with the Jomsvikings, Vargar and few warriors sought to be pirates for two years.
One day they stalked a cargo ship carrying gold based on intel they heard only to be surrounded by the King of Denmark’s warships. Vargar and the gang thought they were done for and would see Valhalla soon.
As Canute ordered to behead the pirates, Thorfinn stopped the decision. Vargar looking at Thorfinn, and remembered he was the previous commander of the Jomsvikings. Thorfinn considers talking with the Jomsvikings before making any rash decisions.
He finds out from Vargar that he remembers Thorfinn, for he told them to join King Canute if they have no place to go. He also finds out that Vargar knew why Thorfinn ordered the Jomsikings to join King Canute.
Vargar states he never thought a flunky of Canute would save him, but rather he is sent to Valhalla. Thorfinn question the philosophy of the Vikings meeting Odin and being soldiers. Vargar, without any thought, tells him everyone knows they have to prepare for Ragnarok.
They then chat about how much creditability the prophecy of Ragnarok holds. Thorfinn states if it were the end of days, wouldn’t they know it before it happens. Vargar finds Thorfinn’s words absurd and knows the prophecy is true.
After contradicting the Viking values, Thorfinn states that he’s looking for a few strong sailors. He explains he’s building a new country and asks if Vargar would join him. Vargar is confused that Thorfinn said all that about the prophecy to request some sailors.
Thorfinn sarcastically says he has no idea, and the Norns didn’t say anything about it. With the choice to die or serve Thorfinn on his quest, the Jomsvikings chose the latter. Coming to the present time, Thorfinn sends off Vargar on a voyage to a distant land.
They joke about how their encounter was a bit foolish. Asking Vargar about the crop they’re growing, Thorfinn gets a reply that he has no idea, and the Norns didn’t say anything about it.
Everyone laughs and the panels state an unpredictable path is open for the Nordic people.

You can read the Vinland Saga by buying the manga from Kodansha USA. They are currently 12 volumes behind, with only 11 of 23 translated so far.
Currently, there is no official way to read Vinland Saga manga online. However, Kodansha Comics has announced that they will be providing digital comics very soon via InkyPen Nintendo Switch.
