Anyone who is up to date with everything MCU-related knows that Daredevil is finally returning after it seemed like all hope was lost when the Netflix series was canceled.
Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk/Kingpin both making their MCU debut this December felt like the best Holiday season present Marvel could gift its fans. However, Hawkeye’s finale kind of rained on this parade.
Marvel’s Hawkeye series for Disney+ aired its finale “So This Is Christmas?” last Wednesday, and fans were pretty disappointed with Kingpin’s fate.
Fans felt cheated when D’Onofrio’s Kingpin was seemingly killed off just an episode after being introduced to the MCU.
Speaking to Deadline, D’Onofrio confessed he is just as clueless and in the dark as the fans about Kingpin’s future,
I hope he didn’t die. I’m with the fans, I want to keep playing this part. My hope is that we continue.
Now, we don’t know whether D’Onofrio is simply pretending to not know what’s next for Kingpin just like a certain Spider-Man did.
In another interview with Collider, D’Onofrio elaborated further on Kingpin’s fate,
I can comment personally. I can’t comment about any fact because they just don’t tell me. So, it made me hope that it would continue, and it still makes me feel that way. I mean, in my mind, she definitely shot him. And, I walked away from Daredevil, at first I thought, “Maybe he’ll come back somehow.” And then very quickly after that, I thought I was walking away for good. So I had always hoped because of the fans wanting him back and everybody, I’d hope that I would come back. So I feel the same way now.
Keep in mind, Kingpin’s death was sketchy. Although he was beaten up badly, Maya’s finishing gunshot that supposedly killed the guy was offscreen.
And one thing an avid film addict knows is never to trust a character’s death unless it’s shown on screen where the person is all bled out or has been absolutely disintegrated and confirmed to be dead.
Another “clue” is that in the comics, Kingpin faces Echo in a similar manner, but instead of killing him, she gives him a makeover, identical to his archnemesis, Matt Murdock.

Besides, why would Marvel bring in such a strong villain only to have him killed without exploring his full potential? Kingpin is so brutal he literally chops a man’s head off with a car door because he spoilt his date night.
It’s Disney, so Kingpin might go PG-13, meaning there might not be another door-smashing kill like the Netflix version, but surely Marvel wouldn’t want to miss out on a villain like him.

Hawkeye is an upcoming television miniseries for the Disney+ streaming service. Created by Jonathan Igla, it is based on the Marvel comic character of the same name. The show will feature Clint Barton aka. Hawkeye and newcomer Kate Bishop who will eventually become the next Hawkeye.
Cast members include Jeremy Renner who will be reprising his role as Barton, and Hailee Steinfeld will be playing Kate Bishop. Additional cast includes Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, and Florence Pugh, who too will reprise her role from the unreleased “Black Widow”. Hawkeye is scheduled to be released in November 2021.
