Sophie Vergara recently attended an episode of The Tonight Show to promote her recent Netflix series Griselda, where she spoke about a Modern Family revival. Vergara says it is too early for a revival, as the show ended only three years ago.

Here’s what she said:

“No, it’s only been four years. I don’t know, but it doesn’t seem right. I feel like we need a little bit more time. Well, we don’t have much time because Ed [O’Neill] is old.”

A while ago, creator Steve Levitan discussed the chances of reviving Modern Family in the context of his Hulu comedy Reboot. He mentioned that although he had a great time making the series, the show already had time.

Vergara’s thoughts echo those of Levitan, as they are content with the way Modern Family ended and believe it’s not the right time to reboot the classic. However, the President of ABC Entertainment had hinted that a spin-off of the popular comedy had been considered.

The spin-off would focus on Mitch and Cam, the gay couple in the series. Since then, we’ve heard no updates about the spin-off, which has reportedly been shelved. The script for the spin-off is still there, as confirmed by Ferguson in 2022.
