Episode 7 Preview & Speculation           

Episode 7 of The Case Study of Vanitas is titled “Love.” It may either refer to the love between Domi and Noe or the growing relationship between Jeanne and Vanitas.

We still don’t know how Vanitas survived from Jeanne’s fangs and how did she control her killing instincts. Is it really the book of Vanitas that saved her? Or her love for Vanitas?

Episode 6 Recap        

In Episode 6, Vanitas arrives just in time and saves Noe from Charlatan. If he was seconds late, Noe would have been dragged down into the darkness and turned into a mindless curse-bearer. 

Jeanne is also here with her infamous Crimson Gauntlet and keeps the curse-bearers away from Vanitas. Meanwhile, Charlaton takes this opportunity to escape from the window promisng that he will return for Noe another day.

Domi realizes that she has no other option but to team up with Vanitas. She drags him to the Vanitas, where curse bearers are slaughtering each other aimlessly.

Vanitas starts treating the curse bearers one after another till he comes across the little girl whose condition is beyond recovery.

She begs him to kill her before she kills her sisters. The ironic scene reminds me of the tragic moments in Attack on Titan when humans were turned into Titans against their wish.

With no other option left, Vanitas turns the little girl into ashes before she could cause any further damage. This cold and callous murder reminds Vanitas of how his master killed Louise, and thus, an argument breaks out between the two friends.

Just when we thought that the situation couldn’t get any worse, Veronica shows up and accuses Vanitas of causing this massacre in the banquet. All the others recovered from the curse are convinced that the Book of Vanitas was responsible for the incident.

Thankfully, Lord Ruthven interferes with the situation and saves Vanitas from freezing to death. It seems he holds a respectable position in the royal court, otherwise who could have dared to defy Veronica?

Why is Lord Ruthven showing interest in a human? Does he have some evil intention behind it? We have to wait for the upcoming episodes to find that out.

The Case Study of Vanitas manga is created by Jun Mochizuka. It started serialization in the Monthly Gangan Joker magazine in December 2015. It is receiving an anime adaptation in July 2021.

Noe, a young vampire, is in search of a cursed book called The Book of Vanitas. However, on his flight to Paris, he comes face to face with Vanitas and realizes that he is a self-proclaimed vampire doctor.

Somehow Noe ends up as Vanitas’ partner to heal vampires who are going feral under an evil influence.
