1. Episode 2 Preview & Speculation
Episode 2 of The Case Study of Vanitas, titled “In the City of Flowers,” will tell us more about the world in which the anime set. We will get to see some new characters, along with their back backstories.
In the preview, Noe keeps rejecting Vanitus’ offer of teaming up and takes him back to the airship to get back his luggage. Unfortunately, few security guards spot them, and Noe falls unconscious.
The “city of flowers” referred to in the title is Paris itself, where Noe and Vanitus will be running away from the cops. The episode is expected to give us a hint on Vanitus’ true motive behind saving the vampires.

3. Episode 1 Recap
Episode 1 starts with the narration of an old folktale about a vampire who was born in the blue moon. Since all the other vampires are born in the crimson moon, they hated him for being different.
Afraid and alone, he created the infamous ‘Book of Vanitas,’ a cursed grimoire for the annihilation of the vampires. This is what the protagonist of this anime, Noe, is after.
He is traveling all the way to Paris, hoping to get his hands on or atleast a glimpse of this overpowered book of magic. Unfortunately, the journey turns out to be quite troublesome for him as he meets a lady vampire who loses her sanity for blood lust.
Vanitas shows up and tries to get the situation under control before it’s too late. However, Noe mistakes him for someone trying to kill the lady, and so, he fights Vanitus head-on to save the lady.
Ironically, her condition gets so bad that she bites Noe to meet her hunger for blood. Thanks to Vanitas for arriving just in time and curing her with his Book of Vanitas.
Meanwhile, Noe was so startled to see the book that he craved for years that he jumps off the airship to follow Vanitas and find out more about him.
Both of them crashed into an old church, where Vanitas reveals that he is a human who aims at preventing the vampires from extinction. But is this really his true intention? We have to wait for the upcoming episodes to find that out.

The Case Study of Vanitas manga is created by Jun Mochizuka. It started serialization in the Monthly Gangan Joker magazine in December 2015. It is receiving an anime adaptation in July 2021.
Noe, a young vampire, is in search of a cursed book called The Book of Vanitas. However, on his flight to Paris, he comes face to face with Vanitas and realizes that he is a self-proclaimed vampire doctor.
Somehow Noe ends up as Vanitas’ partner to heal vampires who are going feral under an evil influence.
