Valve launched Steam Controllers as part of the Steam Machine initiative, designed to rival PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, Steam Machines failed to make an impact in the gaming market due to their high cost and complex design. The Steam Controller was finally pulled back in 2019.
Valve is considering making a new Steam Controller to reimagine PC and console gaming.
Steam Deck designer, Lawrence Yang, recently spoke about Valve’s intentions to bring back a redesigned Steam Controller. Although the specifics of the project were not revealed, Yang did tease that third-party involvement would be welcomed. However, it is clear that the company is fully focused on the Steam Deck now.
The Steam Controller was a disaster, but Valve did a great job with the Steam Deck. Even though it is still a popular gadget, Valve is always looking to improve the product via hardware or software updates. It looks like the next Steam Controller would be far better than the previous one.
Valve is also working on a new VR Controller after the crazy success of Steam Deck. The company has also been developing some of the best rated titles. It was also reported that more Half-Life games are currently in development.
About Steam
Steam is a video game digital distribution service by Valve Softwares. It was launched as a standalone software client in September 2003 as a way for Valve to provide automatic updates for their games and was subsequently expanded to include games from third-party publishers.
