Modders Are Trying to Turn Valheim into a 1000 player MMO

Valheim has made easy work of becoming one of the most popular games on the planet. Clocking record breaking player numbers soon after its release earlier this year, the game has also seen a large number of modders come by to tinker with the mechanics of the game.

While the results of most of the mods so far have been entertaining, to say the least, Valheim modders have now taken a project under their wing(s) that could potentially make the game even more popular. As per a report by PCgamer, modders are now planning to turn the game into a massive MMO.

Titled VaLNGOS (Valheim Large Network Game Object Server Suite), the project/mod aims to turn the 10-player Viking co-op survival title into an MMO capable of hosting over 1,000 players on the same server. It sounds like quite the undertaking, yes, but the modders plan to enlist the help of Comfy Valheim – a server that can reportedly support upto 64 players at once.

Despite the fact that 1000 players is a pretty big leap from the current 340348, the developers of the mod are confident that the server will be able to manage the load.

“By moving all server processing from player’s computers to the server and using specialized programming languages designed for writing operating systems, the team is positive that even player counts in the thousands could be managed,”

Furthermore, the developers also said that the end goal of the mod is to create an experience similar to Hypixel – the popular Minecraft minigame server – as well as “new types of massive RPG experiences.”

Currently, not much else is known of the mod as it is still very early in the development process, but it seems that it’s going to be much larger and more ambitious than any other Valheim mod in existence.
