Valheim is all the hype right now, and we know you’ve gotten right into it. Turns out you are pretty good at surviving in a mysterious land. But now, it’s time to take things to the next level and enter the waterways.
Branded as a survival RPG game, in Valheim, you need to survive in an unknown environment that can be very punishing. As a Viking, you are nothing without your own longboat but let’s take baby steps here and first build a raft.
1. How to Build a Raft?
To build a raft in Valheim, first build a workbench near some water and collect the following items:
- 20 Wood
- 6 Leather Scraps
- 6 Resin
Equip your hammer and select the raft option.
The Workbench need not be covered with a roof, as you just need to be near it to build the raft and not actually use it.
That’s it! Turns out building a raft is relatively easy in Valheim. Controlling it, on the other hand, is a different hassle altogether.
2. How to Sail the Raft in Valheim?
Sailing a raft in Valheim requires you to use the forward and backward controls along with the rudder. Use W/S to go forward and backward and A/D to steer the rudder to go left and right.
The direction controls are represented on the HUD as well. The amount of arrows directly corresponds to the raft’s speed in the current direction when going forward or backward.
- 1 Arrow = 33% Power
- 2 Arrow = 66% Power
- 3 Arrow = 100% Power
The problem is that the raft is still dependent on the wind! In most cases, when your sails are not aligned with the wind direction, either you will move very slowly or not move at all. One arrow in either direction (33% power) will make you move very slowly. At two or three arrows, drop the sails and let the wind take over.
Still, rafting is not as easy it looks; you can and will get stuck. What do you do when things get in a rut? You push, of course!
3. How to Push a Stuck Raft in Valheim?
To get your stuck raft or when it is not moving off the ground, drop into the water and give the raft a push. Turn the raft around a bit when pushing it to get back sailing.
At the early stages of gameplay, you will be stuck with the raft, but once you get the hang of it, it can be pretty reliable.
