Use Trolls to Farm Materials with Basic Skills in Valheim

Resource gathering and loot grinding are two essential gameplay aspects of Valheim. This is especially true during the early game, when players don’t have access to advanced tools and skills, making the process very time-consuming. Now, a Redditor has shown how one of the most tedious tasks in the game, ore mining, can be made easier with the help of trolls.

Mining copper is one of the first major tasks any Valheim player will have to undertake. This involves acquiring the pickaxe by defeating the first boss, Eikthyr, finding a copper vein, and then spending a lot of time chipping away at the resource to gather all the possible copper. Players will also need to repair the pickaxe during the process constantly and will also need to bring along a handcart to transport the heavy ore back to their base. But, by using the in-game trolls, the entire process can be expedited by making them do the hard labor.

Reddit user HallucinogenicTroll shows that you can use the troll’s attacks to break up the copper veins much more quickly. They stand on top of the copper with their shield, parrying every attack of the trolls. Trolls can do a lot of damage, both to the player and the environment, and their parried attacks help to break up the copper into pre-mined chunks.

With this technique, not only does ore mining become faster, but it also allows players to skip fighting the first boss as the pickaxe can now be made using the copper gained through the troll ore mining method. But this technique isn’t without its risks. Trolls hit hard, especially for new players, so if your timing isn’t as perfect as HallucinogenicTrolls, then you might be better off running around the trolls and baiting them to swing at you while trying to get them to smash the copper.

The ability to skip the earliest stages of Valheim can be very advantageous for many players. That being said, the first part of the game is a fun experience, having to gather berries and using your stone ax to fend off grey dwarves of the meadow biome. This method is more beneficial for players who are starting a second, fresh run of Valheim and want to get into the action quicker.
