Peter Jackson’s epic fantasy trilogy The Lord of the Rings, based on J. R. R Tolkien’s hit fantasy novels, brought the world of Middle-earth to life like never before, introducing audiences to Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, and a host of other creatures and races.

Jackson’s original production studio, New Line Cinema, returns to Middle-earth with The War of the Rohirrim, a prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim now officially has a release date set for April 12th, 2024, according to a report from Deadline.
The release date may be a bit later than many expected. The project is still in its early stages of development with animation work under Sola Entertainment, which also animated Blade Runner: Black Lotus.
Although a lot is still unknown about the upcoming anime movie, but a release date at the very least will give fans something to anticipate. The War of the Rohirrim’s producers and directors are clearly committed to taking as much time as it takes to deliver a film worthy of Tolkien’s source material and the devotion of its fans, given their reverence for the Lord of the Rings property.
It’s unlikely that a trailer for The War of the Rohirrim will be released anytime soon since the release date is nearly two years away.
The War of the Rohirrim faces heavy pressure on Middle Earth after The Hobbit trilogy failed to deliver on the expectations of Jackson’s original films. Having the film be animated also offers a unique opportunity to tell the Lord of the Rings story in a refreshing way that could prove to be a hit with viewers.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is an upcoming anime prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy. New Line Cinema will be teaming up with Warner Bros. Animation to expand the world created by J.R.R. Tolkien.
The film will be a stand-alone feature directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex). Rings and Hobbit co-writer Philippa Boyens will be working as a consultant on the project.
The film will take place about 250 years before the events of the trilogy and will be set in the Middle-earth universe. It will explore the legendary Helm’s Deep fortress. Helm Hammerhand, the mightly King of Rohan, will be the central figure of War of the Rohirrim. Helm’s Deep was the center of the Battle of the Hornburg during the War of the Ring in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers movie.
