Assassin’s Creed comic will take us back to the 1970s

Ubisoft had promised to put extra manpower into developing upcoming Assassin’s Creed titles. This was after a disappointing FY 2022 performance. And they have lived up to their promises as of now.

There are as many as 11 Assassin’s Creed titles in the development or idea formulation stage. This includes the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Mirage set in 9th Century Baghdad.

Recently, Assassin’s Creed Visionaries was announced as an artist-driven anthology that will tell stories across the Assassin’s Creed timeline, focusing on the struggles between the Templars and the Assassin Brotherhood. It will feature a new timeline of the 1970s and brand-new faces. The first in the series will be released in November 2023. The comics are by Massive Publishing in partnership with Studio Lounak.

According to Massive, each story in Assassin’s Creed Visionaries will feature new, never-seen-before Assassins. They will be new across all fronts, i.e., comics, games, or elsewhere.

The same source mentioned that the first two stories dropping in November would be part of Assassin’s Creed Visionaries #1. This will be titled “La Bestia,” which translates to “The Beast.” It will feature a revolutionary fighter struggling during the Brazilian dictatorship.

Set in the 1970s, he will be captured and sent to a military black site known as the “Torture Rooms.” The illustrator is Rafael Albuquerque, writer Ale Santos, and colorist Marcelo Maiolo.

The second story jumps to the near future. Templars in this timeline have the upper hand and want to eradicate the Brotherhood one last time. The story is by writer-cum-artist Stephane Louis, and the colorist is Vera Daviet.

Future issues of the series will feature stories by Enrico Marini, Mahmud, Asrar, Olivier Vatine, Yanick Paquette, Niko Henrichon, Jonboy Meyers, and more, as per the sources.

It has been reported that Assassin’s Creed Visionaries will be the first of the many comics for the new line. This line will include several standalone series and reprints of the older Assassin’s Creed comics that have gone out of print.

Assassin’s Creed is a gift that keeps on giving now. With so much for the gaming community to look forward to, the comics are just a cherry on the top of the cake and will drive the series forward, along with Codename Jade and Codename Red.
