Best Friends – How to Save Wolfie in Until Dawn Remake

Until Dawn has always been infamous for its life-and-death choices for the characters, where every decision counts and survival hangs by a thread. In the game’s new remake, one of the characters has the choice to make friends with a faithful companion or lose him forever.

When Mike ventures into the eerie Blackwood Sanatorium in search of his girlfriend, Jessica, he inadvertently comes face-to-face with a wolf. Here’s how the butterfly effect will go for this encounter.

To save Wolfie in the Until Dawn Remake, you must first befriend the wolf in the chapel during Chapter Five. Later, in Chapter Nine, complete Quick-Time Events (QTEs) while Mike flees Wendigos to avoid Wolfie sacrificing his life to save you. If Wolfie survives the entire encounter during Chapter Nine, Mike will unlock the “The Skillful Wolf Man” achievement after destroying the Sanatorium.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to deal with all the encounters for the best outcome and achievement.

A. Chapter Five Encounter

In Chapter Five of Until Dawn Remake, Mike’s Sanatorium exploration results in an encounter with one of the wolves he had seen with a stranger earlier.

  • The wolf appears aggressive, snarling and snapping at Mike, prompting a split-second decision. You can choose to either kick the wolf or do nothing. It’s obvious which choice would be the best.
  • As the timer expires, the Wolf – or Wolfie, as Mike dubs him – calms down, allowing Mike to approach and pet him, transforming the wolf into a friendly ally.

If you kicked Wolfie in the heat of the moment, you can still make amends and turn him friendly. Grab a bone from the chapel’s box and use it as a peace offering, allowing Mike to pet the wolf safely and setting the stage for future encounters.

B. Chapter Nine Encounter

In Chapter Nine, Mike revisits the Sanatorium, reuniting with Wolfie. If Mike previously kicked Wolfie and didn’t repair their relationship, Wolfie will leave, ending their connection. However, if Mike befriended Wolfie, he’ll eagerly approach Mike for pets and follow him through the building.

During Mike’s escape from the Wendigos, precise timing is critical in Quick-Time Events (QTEs). Failure to execute these sequences correctly will result in Wolfie jumping to Mike’s defense, sacrificing himself in the process. Three important events in the Sanatorium put Wolfie’s life at risk:

  • Sneaking Past the Wendigo: Hold still during the ‘Don’t Move’ indicator and successfully complete the QTE to catch the rolling bottle. Failure will prompt Wolfie to intervene, sacrificing himself to ensure Mike’s escape.
  • Explosive Barrel Sequence: Quickly trigger the QTE to roll the barrel between two Wendigos. Missing this prompt or choosing not to shoot the barrel forces a difficult decision: shoot one Wendigo, but Wolfie will have to distract the other, causing his death.

The final instance happens during Mike’s escape from the Sanatorium when he encounters multiple doors with options to do nothing, flee, or barricade. Barricade the door to keep the Wendigo at bay, allowing Wolfie to escape and survive.

If you don’t barricade the door and selfishly jump down the hole, Wolfie will meet his demise at the hands of the Wendigo. By barricading the door, Mike ensures Wolfie’s survival, bids him farewell, and unlocks the “The Skillful Wolf Man” achievement after destroying the Sanatorium.

Remember, choices throughout the game impact character fates. Your quick reflexes and strategic decisions can take or save a life. Stay sharp and choose wisely.
