1. How to unlock Deep Melting Drill in Frostpunk 2?
Deep Melting Drill can be researched in the Heating Tree after unlocking the first generator upgrade and defeating Frost at the end of Chapter 1 in Frostpunk 2. Choosing to embrace the Frost will lock down Deep Mining Drill from the campaign.
Researching the Deep Melting Drill costs 100x Heatstamps and constructing it will take 300x Workforce, 80x Heatstamps, 40x Prefabs, and 1x Core. Additionally, it increases your Trust with the Stalwarts and New Londoners, so research it as early as possible if you support these factions in the game.
2. How to use the Deep Melting Drill in Frostpunk 2?
The Deep Melting Drill can only be constructed on top of a deep deposit inside an Excavation or Food District in Frostpunk 2.
This means that you first have to create an appropriate district to place the drill as it can be placed anywhere individually. Furthermore, it is recommended to pick a district that has a resource you desperately need in the Deep Deposits beneath, otherwise you will end up wasting a precious core.
Constructing a Deep Melting Drill will immediately boost the efficiency of a district, making it one of the most important buildings in the game.
