Besides offering compelling gameplay and breathtaking graphics, Horizon Forbidden Dawn is eco-friendly as well. From the comfort of their own living rooms, gamers can literally save the planet by booting up this open-world RPG when it releases on February 18. How, you may ask?
As a part of its “Plant and Play” initiative, Sony has joined hands with the Arbor Day Foundation and promised to plant one tree for every time players earn the “Reached the Daunt” trophy in Horizon Forbidden West.
If you are interested in contributing towards the noble cause of reforestation, then remember to earn the trophy before March 25 or before Sony fulfills its goal of 288,000 trees.
For the release of Horizon Forbidden West, we want to do something to help nature… with you. Just like how Aloy fights to save the Earth in the game, we can do something together to help our planet.
Sony
Given that Horizon Forbidden West is one of the most-anticipated games of this year and its predecessor has just surpassed 20 million sales, no eyebrows would be raised if Sony hits the milestone prior to the set deadline.
Since this is a charitable partnership where Mother Earth is put before anyone else, “Reached the Daunt” shouldn’t be super hard to seize and will likely be yours after roughly 90 minutes in Aloy’s world.
On top of this, it’s also reported that this trophy would be a part of the game’s main story so players wouldn’t have to go out of their way to fight deforestation.
Now while you’ll be immersing yourself in Horizon Forbidden West to ensure the trophy is yours, Sony’s efforts will be dedicated to planting trees in three different projects across the USA:
- Douglas County Forest in Wisconsin
- Lassen County in California
- Torreya State Park in Liberty County, Florida
These areas were devoid of their natural state due to deforestation and natural disasters. Therefore, the efforts of the Arbor Day Foundation are aimed at spreading greenery to aid wildlife and restore biodiversity.
