Five long years later, Universal Pictures and Illumination have confirmed a release date for Despicable Me 4. The movie will arrive in theaters on July 3, 2024.
Gru, his family of minions, and the girls, Margo, Edith, and Agnes, will return with a new story full of mischief and misadventures in two years.
The news brings back fond memories of watching the original titular, long-nosed supervillain scheming evil things comically and falling in love with three little girls for the first time, more than a decade ago in 2010.
The star cast of the movie will also be returning, giving fans the nostalgic touch. Steve Carell as Gru, Miranda Cosgrove as Margo, Dana Gaier as Edith and Elsie Fisher as the youngest Agnes, Kristen Wiig as Lucy Wilde and others.
Chris Renaud, who directed the first two Despicable Me installments, will helm the latest one with Patrick Delage. Delage and Renaud worked previously on the hit movie, The Secret Life of Pets.
For fans of the franchise, the crazy but sweet little yellow creatures, the wait won’t be too long. The first spinoff titled Minions was released in 2015.
The spinoff’s sequel, Minions: The Rise of Gru will be released on July 1, 2022. The Rise of Gru focuses on the childhood of Gru and how the 12-year-old dreamed of becoming a supervillain.
Despicable Me 4 joins other nostalgic animation movies lineup in 2024. Two untitled South Park animations, one The Smurfs, and one Transformers, are scheduled for future releases. There are also plenty of untitled DreamWorks and Pixar animations in the works.
Meanwhile, not much regarding Despicable Me 4 has been released. However, lovers of the franchise can expect a bigger family drama (now that we have Dru and Gru’s wife) and a new trouble brewing at the lab with the loyal and mischievous minions.
