Uncovering the Truth: Silent Hill 2 Remake – All Endings and How To Achieve Them

Bloober Team has faithfully recreated the original experience of Silent Hill 2 in its recently released remake, including the narrative, puzzles, and endings. However, a remake wouldn’t be a remake if we didn’t get something extra on the side.

This revamp includes all the original endings along with additional ones exclusive to New Game Plus. So, let’s look at how to achieve every possible ending in Silent Hill 2 Remake. So be warned, as this guide contains end-game spoilers.

1. All Silent Hill 2 Remake Endings and How To Unlock Them

The Silent Hill 2 Remake preserves the classic multiple endings with a twist. While maintaining the original six endings – Rebirth, Leave, Maria, In water, and the two joke endings, Dog and UFO – the remake introduces two new conclusions, bringing the total to eight.

The twist? The requirements to unlock them have changed. Your ending is determined by passing through the final door after the sickbed conversation in the hallway. Here are all the endings and how to unlock them.

1. The “Leave” Ending

Considered the “good” ending, this conclusion shows James accepting his reality and departing Silent Hill with Laura. He overcomes guilt over Mary’s death, avoids excessive attachment to Maria, and finds closure.

To achieve this ending:

  • Prioritize Mary over Maria, limit interactions with Maria, and avoid repeated visits.
  • Show restraint in saving Maria. Don’t display an excessive desire to rescue her.
  • Maintain James’ health and keep his health meter full whenever possible.
  • Periodically inspect Mary’s photo in your inventory.

2. The “Maria” Ending

This conclusion sees James succumb to his attraction to Maria, denying responsibility for Mary’s death. Unlike the “Leave” ending, where James honors Mary’s memory, the “Maria” ending prioritizes his desire for Maria.

To achieve this ending:

  • Spend quality time with Maria.
  • Keep Maria close, avoiding solo exploration.
  • Protect Maria from monsters and damage.
  • Ignore Mary’s photo.
  • Follow Maria’s suggestions, such as her lead to Brookhaven Hospital.

3. The “In Water” Ending

The tragic “In Water” ending culminates with James succumbing to guilt over Mary’s death and taking his own life. Guide James down a path of self-destruction by playing as if he’s lost the will to live.

To achieve this ending:

  • Display reckless disregard for James’ well-being.
  • Restrict healing to only critical moments. Heal sparingly, avoiding over-restoration.
  • Reserve syringes for life-threatening situations. Monitor James’ health via blood spots on his jacket.
  • Hint at James’ self-destructive thoughts by periodically inspecting the knife in his inventory.

4. The “Rebirth/Ritual” Ending

The “Rebirth” ending, also called the Ritual ending, requires collecting four specific items throughout the game. In a desperate bid to revive Mary, James travels to a hidden island in Toluca Lake and tries to revive Mary through an occult ritual.

To achieve this ending:

  • Complete the game once and start a New Game Plus.
  • Find the four items: Book of Lost Memories, White Chrism, Obsidian Chalice, and Crimson Ceremony.
  • Note that the item locations may differ from the original Silent Hill 2.
  • Collect all items and complete the game to trigger this ending.
  • Avoid completing the UFO and Dog ending requirements.

5. Bonus “Dog” Ending

In addition to its main conclusions, Silent Hill 2 includes two parody endings that propose unlikely culprits behind James’ ordeal. The first one is the “Dog” ending.

To achieve this ending:

  • Complete the three main endings (Leave, Maria, and In Water) and start a New Game Plus.
  • Find the Broken Key Part: Visit Big Jay’s pet shop (Katz St & Neely St). Search the back room’s pet carrier in Wood Side Apartments.
  • Find the Bone Key: Explore Silent Hill’s streets after meeting Maria in Rosewater Park. Find the dog house (formerly behind a closed gate) in the new area.
  • Combine the Broken Key Part and Bone Key to create the complete Dog Key.
  • Reach Lakeview Hotel and watch James’ videotape. Use the Dog Key to unlock the nearby Observation Room to complete the Dog ending.

6. Bonus “UFO” Ending

This is the second enigmatic and absurd “joke” ending to Silent Hill 2, only accessible in New Game Plus.

  • Start by visiting the Groovy Music store, where you’ll find a magazine on the bench containing cryptic clues.
  • These hints point to an alien device, the Blue Gem, hidden in a Silent Hill storefront north of Big Jay’s on Neely Street.
  • Smash the store window and retrieve the Blue Gem from the jewelry box.
  • Visit three key locations: the Saul Apartments rooftop, Toluca Lake, and Lakeview Hotel.
  • You’ll hear eerie sci-fi sounds at each site, and the Blue Gem will glow, leading you to the UFO ending.

7. New Remake Endings

  • The revamped Silent Hill 2 features two previously unseen endings, but the unlock requirements are unknown.
  • It’s also uncertain whether these endings become accessible after completing the original endings and starting a new game plus.
  • However, two new collectible elements have been introduced that may hold clues to unlocking the mysterious endings and provide further insight into James and Mary’s haunting story.

With multiple endings to discover, the truth behind James’ journey awaits. Will you unravel the mysteries of Silent Hill?”
