It is no secret that Google is shutting down its Stadia services in January 2023 officially, three years after launch. While the news is a bit unfortunate, all purchases will be refunded to players as confirmed by Google. But it seems like Ubisoft has other plans to help out Stadia players in a different way.
Ubisoft has announced that players who purchased Ubisoft titles on Stadia will be able to transfer their games to PC. Ubisoft’s most popular titles like Assassin’s Creed games and Far Cry games were available on Stadia so the players that bought those games can transfer them to PC.
Google has already shut down the Stadia storefront so no games can be purchased anymore. Ubisoft hasn’t revealed yet the exact details of how players will transfer the games to PC and if progression will carry over from Stadia to PC. Although, the Ubisoft+ subscription service offers a cloud save feature, so maybe they can utilize that to carry over progression.
Ubisoft hasn’t yet given a date for when the option will become available for players. If you’re wondering what’s gonna happen with players who don’t have a PC for transferring their Ubisoft games, Google will refund all purchases including add-on content so rest assured, Stadia players will be refunded even if they don’t have a PC.
In case you’re hearing Google’s Stadia service shutting down for the first time, we’ll give you a recap. Google’s Stadia service is officially shutting down on January 18, 2023 and all purchases will be refunded except Pro subscriptions. Google aims to process most refunds by mid-January 2023.
