An open-world Star Wars game is in the works at Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment studio.
Star wars fans, we come bearing good news for you! A new open-world Star Wars game will soon hit the markets. Lucasfilms announced this week that it’s ending its eight year-long exclusive partnership with EA and entering in a new partnership with Ubisoft to create an open-world Star Wars game.
Ubisoft’s Swedish studio, Massive Entertainment and Lucasfilm’s gaming division are collaborating over the development of a massive open-world Star Wars game. The release date is still unknown, however, what is known is that the Snowdrop Engine behind Ubisoft’s The Division series will be used.
Ever since the announcement of Ubisoft’s involvement, fans have their expectations soared up. With fan-favourite titles like Assassins Creed, Watchdogs and Far Cry under their hood, it is safe to say that Ubisoft has the credentials to live up to their fans’ expectations.

With virtual content like Disney+’s The Mandalorian receiving critical acclaim, the Star Wars universe offers a lot of scope to be explored and utilized across digital platforms, especially video games.
The new announcement also marked the end of Electronic Arts’ (EA) partnership with Lucasfilms to produce Star Wars related video games.
In the statement issued by EA to The Verge, the company said,
”We are proud of our long-standing collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, which will continue for years to come.”

An Indiana Jones release is also in the works at Bethesda Studios. The format for which is still unknown but an open-world game seems the most probable scenario. Nevertheless, Disney’s future in the gaming industry seems very bright with two popular additions to the list of ‘games adapted from movie franchises’ genre.
