Yesterday, Far Cry fans got their first look at gameplay, the main character, and also the world of Far Cry 6. Stepping into the shoes of Dani Rojas, a freedom-fighting guerrilla trying to free the island of Yara from the clutches of the local dictator Anton Castillo, players will be crossing what Ubisoft has stated is the most extensive map to date in any Far Cry game. While fans have been trying to guess the size of the island and its features, a Reddit post has helped clarify most doubts.
The world of every Far Cry game is one of the most exciting parts of the game, and each installment has just increased the size of its playground. Ubisoft’s own description for Far Cry 6‘s map is that it is “the largest Far Cry playground to date.”
Redditor guccitorial_gangulas posted a screenshot of the Far Cry 6 map shown briefly during the trailer. The map shows the island’s full size and layout. The map constitutes mainly the large central island of Yara, with smaller islands located off the south-western coastline. Many speculate that the smaller islands will be where the tutorials will take place or the location of boss encounters, like in Far Cry 3.
The image posted on Reddit matches the other pictures of Far Cry 6‘s maps shown so far, and a real-life map of the island could be seen behind Narrative Director Navid Khavari during the worldwide reveal trailer of Far Cry 6.The map is zoned off into various areas, most likely demarking the various jungles, beaches, and other biomes which Ubisoft has described. The teaser trailer also showed locations such as a lighthouse, a potential airport, and several other buildings across the island.
It’s difficult to figure out the exact size of the island through the screenshot of the map alone. We’ll have to take Ubisoft’s word that this indeed will be the largest Far Cry map to date and contain the most varied biomes in the series. Now, the game’s map size isn’t the sole determining factor for the quality of the game, but having a variety of environments to explore, along with the massive list of weapons each Far Cry game comes with, can help keep things fresh and exciting for a while.
