Ubisoft reportedly has eleven Assassin’s Creed titles planned

After Ubisoft’s disappointing fiscal year of 2022-23, the developers looked to improve the size of the teams working on the Assassin’s Creed franchise by over 40%.

As per recent reports by Insider Gaming, Ubisoft is currently working on as many as 11 titles simultaneously. This includes upcoming Mirage, Nexus, Codename Jade, Codename Red, Hexe, Invictus, Nebula, Raid, Echoes and one particular meant for mobile phones as a part of an exclusive agreement with Netflix. On top of this are the recent rumors of the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remake.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the upcoming title, releasing on October 12th, 2023. It features revamped gameplay focused on stealth and has a smaller map size and shorter but more intense gameplay, as revealed by the developers. This was after widespread fan discontent because of the long gameplay of Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus is Ubisoft’s ambitious venture into the VR realm. A teaser that has been released shows promise, and fans are excited about this. Internally, a sequel to the Nexus is being discussed while it is in production.

Codename Jade is the mobile game that is in production currently, being developed as a part of an exclusive agreement with Netflix. It will reportedly be based on the path of Xia and will be set in the third century BC, during the time of one of the first unified empires in China. It can be expected in the final quarter of 2023.

Codename Red will be made as a part of a decade-long request by the community – a journey back in time to Feudal Japan. It is set to be developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the same studio behind AC: Odyssey. Sources close to Insider Gaming have suggested that this title may be released in 2024. It will feature both a shinobi and a samurai.

The titles in pre-production are the single-player Codename Hexe, expected in 2025/26 and the multiplayer title of Codename Hexe, set for a 2025/26 release as well.

The rest of the titles, i.e., Codename Invictus, Nebula, Raid and Echoes, are still in the concept phase. Codename Raid and Echoes will be multiplayer titles.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Nebula has been pitched to Ubisoft Sofia – the studio which co-developed AC III: Liberation and AC: Rogue. Codename Nebula reportedly has three settings – India, Aztec Empire and the Mediterranean.

AC: Black Flag Remake has just been greenlit and is not in the works. Codename Echoes will leverage Ubisoft Stockholm’s Scalar technology for cloud computing. Raid will have a free-to-play 4-player co-op title with a PvE featuring characters from the AC universe.

The details are fascinating, and Ubisoft is making amends. They’re going back to the old ways of developing stealth-based titles, which was the main attraction of the Assassin’s Creed titles. Only time will tell if this roadmap is ambitious, and whether this will revolutionize the franchise.
