PlayStation recently got into a bit of controversy when it stated that Horizon Forbidden West would only get a next-gen update if they purchased the more expensive version. While the backlash caused them to pull back on this decision, Sony later said that all PlayStation exclusives after Horizon Forbidden West would not get free next-gen upgrades; a $10 fee would be applied.
Ubisoft is here to remind everyone that it isn’t that money-hungry.
One aspect to blame here for the next- and last-gen confusion is the overlap between the consoles. No longer can manufacturers put out a new console and forget about the previous one. So it was good to hear that both Microsoft and Sony, as well as other studios, were going to offer free next-gen updates for anyone who bought a last-gen copy of their game.
Sony will be ending this soon with the launch of Horizon Forbidden West, while Microsoft has given no word of ending free next-gen updates.
Ubisoft is one of the developers who will also be giving free upgrades; both Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion will be getting one. The same has been promised for Far Cry 6. While this was confirmed earlier already, Ubisoft wanted to reiterate it just in case people had any confusion with the recent Sony incident.

When it came to Forbidden West, players were surprised and annoyed that the PS4 version would not come with a PS5 upgrade. To access the game on next-gen consoles, players must purchase the more expensive digital deluxe edition.
While the backlash has caused Sony to pull back this decision, it does set a worrying precedent. The $10 fee, for now, has been only for PlayStation Exclusives, but it has opened the door for other developers to charge an upgrade fee as well.
We’re hoping that upgrading Far Cry 6 is a straightforward process. As of now, you will be able to download the next-gen digital copy of the game once you are on a next-gen console, or you will have to insert the disc and activate the download if you have bought the physical copy.

Far Cry 6 is the latest insallment in the Far Cry series developed and published by Ubisoft. The game is an open-world, first-person action adventure title, and is set for a 2021 release.
Players will take control of Dani Rojas, a freedom fighting guerrilla, who is trying to overthrow the local dictator Anton Castillo. Far Cry 6 is based on the fictional island of Yara, and has been called the largest map of any Far Cry game yet. Players will have access to a variety of hand-made weapons and local vehicles in their fight against the forces of Castillo.
